Lightweight forums?Follow

#1 Dec 20 2004 at 1:22 AM Rating: Decent
Is there any way to make the forums lightweight for those of us who have to read them through iSilo/Plucker on our PDAs? (Stupid office expecting me to _work_ during the graveyard shift muttermutter...) The only _really_ annoying thing that I can't seem to filter out through account information is the Recent Visitors trickery that is completely ignorable on the PC, turns into a 299-user list on anything that doesn't support javascript. (? I think. I'm a DBA, not a web type. ) I can drop the sidebar with the cookies (yay iSilo), I can pull out most/all table formatting (yay!) I could learn to live with the job-specific forum headers, but that Recent Visitors tag is... Hurty. During peak times (I know, I know, sync at 3am when it's only 100 visitors..), that's a good 5-10 pages of scrolling.

I'd say something about "can I turn off stickies?", doubly so since Karg's video monster thread is now attempting to sync every time, but I can filter those out of the spider.

I ask because I'd rather see if it's been answered before or if it's fixable with client-side stylesheet voodoo rather than abuse the server trying out various combinations or writing my own spider that drops chunks of code. Ideally, everything from the first <table ...> clear through <td class="mhback">Thread Subject</a></td> could get whacked. The Forum hierarchy line is tricky because you suddenly find yourself spidering the DAoC forum and wondering how the heck _that_ got in there.

If it's server side, something like http://pda.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10, that would just make me drool.
