Karma Orgy Thread in FFXI Main Forum...Follow

#1 Dec 01 2004 at 1:15 PM Rating: Excellent
Yet another uncontrolled, pointless, off-topic rate-up thread in the main FFXI Forum. Can someone please lock and/or nuke this blatant abuse of the karma system?

Dont worry about it. Remember the last one? I think the OP of that one wound up with less of his precious karma than when he started.

Just go and knock the OP down, everyone else will even out.

I just wonder who needed to start a ratebot?

Doesn't appear to be happening this time. Normally I don't care. They do tend to even out, like you said. But this thread... 340 posts, most of which are 5.00 in the last hour alone. Not to mention the guy who started it:

Name: rateupz
Title: Scholar
Number of Posts: 25
Average score of posts: 5.00
Journal: No

That's a pretty nice sockpuppet.

It just seems worse than the other karma threads that pop up from time to time. But I've done my part. Rated the OP and what I could when I first spotted it. Don't have time to rate 340+ posts. I'll leave it up to the admins to decide what to do with it, now that I've pointed it out.

I think that thread alone is responsible for several people with post counts around 100-200 making Sage.

If this is allowed to continue it just means karma = worthless.

Karma already = worthless...

I see so many sages and guru's that are puppets of the older posters its not even funny.

I even seen some of the older ones defend a new 20 post guru because he WAS a sock puppet of an older poster.

Karma dont mean squat... just leave em alone and they go away....

I feel tempted to say something sarcastic like "only if it is allowed to continue?",
but the truth is that even when I first came here, it was the bold red on certain names like Seryn's which drew my attention to her posts to begin with, and gave me the impetus to pay enough attention to them to realize that she really does have good things to say when she posts.

I'm pretty confident (as I've stated in that thread) that everyone will come and undo the karma madness.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the army of sockpuppets will be squashed before they can do much of anything.

Locking the thread might not be a bad idea tho.

Seems like the army of socks is mass rating themselves up multiple times, lol. Either that or people just really like to rate up, rated down the OP and a few others and most of them stayed at 5.00. I'm sure Ilia will fix it eventually though, lol.

Edit: yeah, it's definately out of hand, found this quote in the middle of it

    It's not stopping...

And now people have gone from nothing to sage.

It was amusing, but now it's just a blatent abuse of karma.

Can the thread be locked please?

The fact that MY karma moved is astonishing, and shows that it will take a monumental effort to rate them all back down to where they should be.

I'm not so confident that will happen anymore.

Kao finally locked it, but about 15 pages too late, don't you think?

Now that it is locked and people can't post more, the rate downs will begin. (Or maybe not...who knows)

    Thanks Kaolian.

Better lock this thread too: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=110192559440198659&num=13

Before it gets out of hand.

I think it wiser to let the thread build to 15 pages and then drop a bomb on every post in there.
It has a more dramatic effect that way.

Usually they are ratedown threads in disguise from the start anyway, or a way for some *** to get rating power for just a few hours.
