Friends List Suggestion.Follow

I'm not sure if this is even possible, but being on facebook lately has got me thinking...

I only keep the closest people I know in my life on my facebook and as such I only have a select few friends and family on it. I see all these people with facebook's who have hundreds and hundreds of friends and it got me thinking...

I've befriended HUNDREDS if not over a THOUSAND people in my FFXI career. The sad thing is the friends list caps at 200 people. The sadder thing is that I hate deleting anyone off my friends list to "make room" for others. Even if some people are no longer playing, I never know when they might come back to the game and may NEED A FRIEND, I'd also be delighted to see them back.

Would there be any way for you (Square Enix) to raise the amount of people stored on the Friends List? Does it have to be capped?

Furthermore:

If some day the cap was raised or taken off of the Friends List, would it be possible to some how retrieve friends you have deleted off your list? Rather, "Restore Friends" or something of the like?

Thinking of all the people I've deleted, always being capped and 200 and thinking if they ever come back I might miss them makes me sad.

I'm not sure which of this is possible but it would certainly be nice for returning players who seem to have trouble finding old friends and getting things done.

Edit: OK not fair to say that.

Let's do a little more digging, shall we?

PlayOnline is not the only service that limits the friend list capacity. XBox and PSN both cap at 100. Facebook has the upper limit set at 5,000 (most memorably because someone got pretty much all of Facebook friending him and wound up causing a massive performance drop for the site).

Now you could say that they all do it for resource limitations, but there's a more scientific answer:

Literally, the arbitrary number has some science behind it.
