It is very, very, difficult to get a start in this game anymore, and fishing limits do not help. Why?

Also, would it really be so complicated to enable the AH to accept amounts between a stack and one? For instance, what if I have 10 moat carp stinking up my bag? Since I am only allowed seven AH spaces to sell, I am pretty much stuck until I manage to fish a stack's worth. But wait! I can't do that until tomorrow because of fishing limits. Of course, to coninue, I can't get the stuff that I need, such as scrolls and gear. I don't mind working to buy these things, but having some arbitrary limit on a decent way to earn gil is frustrating.

You're right. It does sound patronizing.

If someone wants to log in and fish from day one till their fingers bleed because that's their idea of fun, then they should be able to. If RMT come along and try to take advantage, then they and not the innocent player, need to be dealt with.

That was SE's problem. They didn't want to actively police the game against RMT. They just decided to nerf everyone's fishing, farming, and gardening and be done with it. Sure SE's methods had an impact on RMT. Of course they used a wrecking ball when a sledgehammer would have done the trick, but what the heck.

You know what really killed RMT though? Reducing the importance of gil. The game is no longer "spend 8 million gil on one piece of armor or be a worthless gimp because there are no reasonable alternatives." Players, in general, don't feel like they need to cheat anymore just to be acceptable.

How can you really tell the difference between someone who gets his jollies fishing all day and an RMT? Between a food crafting mule and an RMT? I remember getting some accusatory tells from people thinking I was an RMT - I heard stories from others that got these tells as well. It's difficult to target the people that sell their gil to an outside source based ONLY on in-game activities.

Also, shock and awe, but real players bought and sold gil too. I knew a half dozen or so friends (not people in passing, but people I did stuff with regularly) that bought gil when they wanted it and sold it when clearing out their accounts. How big of a part of the overall market these people were, I cannot say, but every gil that RMT made from fishing must have been sold to a player at some point, else they wouldn't have needed to keep fishing.

They should at least up the fishing cap, even if they will not get rid of it. It's not 200 fish. It depends on the weight of what you pull up. Moat carp, sure, you csan get 200 of those. If you're fishing up monsters/items (for nahn/karkinos for instance) it's more like 30. If you're fishing for large fish, (like any of the fish SE has added in the last 5 years.) it's more like 15. After that you'll be getting 10-20 "you didn't catch anything" in a row, then a monster, then more "You didn't catch anythings."

It makes leveling fishing annoying. It makes fish ranking stupidly hard. It is the difference between winning and losing aquatic depopulation team and 6 accumulated C.C. points. It makes getting anything from "Inside The Belly" @#%^ing impossible. Most importantly, it makes anyone who likes fishing stop doing the part of the game they enjoy. Get rid of the stupid fatigue system, or at least adjust it upwards so that only actual fish botters will notice.

It's not like this system ever stopped fish botters anyway, they just switched to another character when they hit their limit. Actual players however, that want to level fishing on their character, do fishing related quests, accrue guild points, or get fish for cooking were the only ones hurt.

But they were dealt with. You may not like the way they were dealt with, but you go to any other mmo and try to tell me they don't have limitations for new characters that were largely put in place because of RMT trouble. After two weeks the OP is going to be able to fish as a normal player, which is more than he would have been able to do if it was still the way it was when you couldn't find a quiet corner of Knightswell for all the jhfjshfjshf ajhfjashfjkasd ahdfjhas hadfjasfhask in the way.

They even compensated for the loss of income by adding income to just about everything else, and putting an end to the choke hold that crafters had on the rest of the playerbase.

I don't buy that the OP is doing it because he genuinely enjoys nothing else about the game but fishing, either. He said as much in his post:



He's doing it because it used to be *the* way to make gil 5 years back when leveling to 20 actually took weeks because you stood around the majority of time looking for a party. It doesn't sound like he's explored any other avenues of making money or indeed, anything else in the game at all. Things have changed. The game moved forward.

So while you defending his position is praise-worthy, please remember that this isn't the same game it was in 2004. It's almost 2012, and games evolve or they die.

Two weeks isn't the end of the world. SE could have just as easily taken the Lu Shang's quest out of the game or changed the requirements to some other high level fish (which is the reason the carp sell to well to begin with) to combat the RMT. This way made more sense and was actually more friendly to the players starting out.
