Please Merge Auction HousesFollow

This has probably been said before millions of times and also been posted here but for Altana's sake please merge all the Auction Houses into one. People in the starter cities get ripped off pretty bad being new when they are paying 10,000 gil for example Bone Armor when it is only 3,000 gil in Jeuno. This really discourages new players and once they buy that 10,000 gil piece it has already lost its value once they hit Jeuno. And prices usually fluctuate too much in the city auction houses due to the high demand and low listings. I mean yeah there's profitability for us veterans but it is one of the reasons I never list any armor that is low level that is cheaper from the NPC.

Please merge the Auction Houses. Well that's all I got.

Yes please. It's already kinda convoluted enough that so many places link to one (Jeuno) AH, yet the three nations that are probably most closely connected to Jeuno are not.

3rded. Please at least link the three starter city AH's. I've just started a new account after a long hiatus, and it's discouraging to not be able to find gear. If the three starter cities had merged AH's that would do wonders for the supply increase.

Nah SE wants people to have a hard time when they join that way they quit before the 14 day trial is over.

Seriously why hasn't this been done months if not years ago.

Problem is that if the auction houses are merged, prices will not go down much at all. Instead of 3k bone armor, you'll look at 8-10k due to increase demands.
The majority of low level players are returners/subjob levelers, who know how to check FFXIAH and just pick up gear on their high level jobs.

You're assuming that FFXI is not a functioning economy. Supply is not finite, it will increase with the demand which will regulate the price. Sure the price might be higher than Jeuno's AH, but that's how it has always been.

Their only good reason to keep the AH's separate right now is to force new players to explore the world. The problem is that no one is going to want to play the game for long enough to explore if they can't get gear to improve themselves. The severe lack of goods on the starter city AH's is a big deterrent to new people. The only other solution is to add more vendored items.

This!

If Jeuno strikes a deal to better relations with the near east through the AH system, how does that look on the three nations?

Though I don't think this would cut down congestion in WG (which was never said just implying), one of the biggest reasons I like to go to WG is to listen to the /sh's that are going on to see if something is going on so personally I would love to see a type of global chat perhaps only accessable from cities and with a way to enable/disable with a simple /command. However that's for a different thread sorry got a little off topic. ><

Anywho, All for AH Merge!!!

This would not only help the economy, it would help keep players spread out throughout the main nations.

Barely anyone uses the Main Nation AH's. And when they do, it's usually not for dire items. If all the AH's were connected, there would be less need for everyone to use the Teleport to Whitegate to use the Auction. Most people home-point in their main nation at this point, anyway. You can look at it as there are 5 AH's connecting to the one, but that's not really a reasonable argument. It doesn't really matter, because if you're home-pointed in Sandy, what's the fastest way to get to the Jeuno auction house? Use the NPC to Teleport to Whitegate. Aside from Airship to Jeuno, or running, you're going to go through Whitegate to get to Jeuno also. It's all a giant circle. In order to get to the useful auction house, you have to go to Whitegate, which bottlenecks the community in situations like what happened after the server merge.

Sorry to bump an old post, but, please do this. I know I'm joining rather late, but I just finally started up on FFXI on Carbuncle in Windurst. The Auction House literally has no gear. I've grinded up to 18, but I'm stuck in my best possible gear available to me. A level 9 dagger (got lucky and got it from the AH) and level 11 armor (From the npcs). I've tried making the run to Jeuno a few times, but simply get 1 shot by the dinosaurs along the way. I'm stuck grinding on easy prey monsters that will soon be too weak to gain exp from. And once those are gone, I don't think my level 9 dagger and 11 armor will cut it for the new "easy prey" monsters that I'll have to face. For now I'm hoping I can hold out to 20 and just get the Rank 2 conquest dagger, but, this is ridiculous :/

I support this idea, and have for a very long time. I've mentioned it, others have mentioned it, it needs to be done. Would give people a reason to hang out in the starter cities to and make them feel less dead. Would help new adventurers in every way, and even show them that the auction house isn't actually as dead as they think. This should have been done a long time ago honestly.

I know, I know, There is already a newer thread talking about this same idea. But Im bumping it anyway, I think SE needs to be reminded everyday since they obviously lack the common sense needed to do something as easy and important as this. So, bump, bump, bump SE

I would like to see this as well. The AH in the starter cities is useless now anyway. Most categories don't have any items at all up for sale. At this point the AH should be the same database in every city. SE has recognized themselves that most players are lv 75 or higher, but they haven't made any move to fix this particular issue.

W...what? Supply does not automatically increase with demand, as if people magically knew when other people needed things. It's the relationship between supply and demand that determine price.

Yes, but Seedling was wrong in the first place. Supply in the starter areas would increase, lowering the price because demand would stay the same.

Demand in the starter areas for certain gear/food is currently X.
Supply in those areas is really low, like .5(X) [if you're lucky] so people can jack up the prices due to low supply.
If supply suddenly increases because things that were normally mostly sold in Jeuno/WG now appear in the start areas, then starter area peeps now reap the benefits of Jeuno prices, which are usually lower.

Why would demand stay the same? When you are merging auction houses, you merge supply AND demand.

And how will new players earn gil if their niche markets are destroyed by bulk supply from all over the game?

The idea is nice in theory but would work against you in the long run. I believe the reason this hasn't already happened is to encourage players to gather in one place. Due to the fact that the game doesn't provide options for gathering members outside of /shout, increasing the number of possible locations that players can access the Jeuno auction house system further reduces the possible pool of players who may be seeking to participate in an activity. Perhaps after the /sea and comments system is completely overhauled this might work, but until it's not really a viable option.

There's no reason not to merge the AHs.

As for forcing a centralized community, I can't really say the current accomplishes that, either. Whitegate may be the current goto hub, but you're not seeing shouts if you're sitting in your moghouse or even if they're filtered. If SE was genuinely interested in promoted community interaction beyond the half-assed search system, they would've made a timer restricted universal chat channel that's monitored by GMs to keep the typical trash-talking ******** off of it.

probly get rated down for this, but meh...

Don't merge with Jueno. Gotta remember how RMT's function. It'll just make it easier for them to get stuff in Jueno and muck up the supply--and consequently the prices. Think the undercutting is bad now?

I think merging the outer nations would be a better compromise. GS and Smithing guilds are in Bastok. Leather guild in Sandy, Bone and Cloth in Windy. This would provide lower crafters a better opportunity to sell the lower level starting craft items where the lower levels that use them are stationed.

Orcao is a prime example. Someone could be skilling on gears in his/her level range and listing in the local AH's with the lower fees, and he/she could upgrade through Windy's AH. Higher level gears would still sell better through Jueno more exclusively, but the lower items like base leather, bronze/brass, and bone gears could sell well locally to recoup costs from starting crafts.

Personally, I have no preference on merging/not merging. But, I do have some thoughts.

To easily merge the AHs, you would need empty AHs. So, you would have to forcefully return everyone's items to their Delivery Box before merging. That would allow you to not have to worry about combining items that are currently on bid.

If merging the AHs wont work for other reasons that the playerbase simply does not know and understand, then I have another possible solution. Add a Jeuno AH NPC to each City AH. What would probably happen with this is that people will stop using the normal AH causing it to be completely empty, and would just use the Jeuno NPCs. But, that would allow people to access the Jeuno AH in the cities without any type of merger or integration of the systems.

Maybe you could tie something to it like needing to be Rank 4 to gain access (something similar to how the Tavnazia AH needs the proper CoP Mission completed before you can access it).

Rank 4 is suggested because that is when you have gotten the Jeuno Embassy NPC from Delkfukt's Tower, so it could make sense story wise. That would also put a requirement preventing abuse from junk RMT characters.

I think SE has had to do major changes to the AH system at least once in the last 6 years. And when they did, they announced it ahead of time and told players to make sure they didn't have anything still up on the AH when the maintenance occurred, or they would lose the items. They took the same approach with world merges.
