South Dakotans own more motorcycles per capita than any other state. And it shows. Once the snow melted they're everywhere.

And it will just escalate until the Sturgis Rally in August/September.[:sigh:]

There is a motorcycle shop that hosts weekly rallies about 3 blocks from my house.

They seriously had a Sleep Inn built behind them because these rallies are so well attended.

I feel your pain.

You can keep 'em. I don't know if it's state-wide or national or what but I see cars with some "Start Seeing Motorcycles" bumper stickers and always think a much more effective campaign would be to teach the motorcycle owners "Stop riding like **** and realize that the vehicles surrounding you are much more massive and protective of their occupants and perhaps act accordingly".

I don't really want 'em either. A few is ok but towards Rally time there are an estimated extra 250,000 bikes on the roads, and that's terrible.

As to the "awareness" issue: Yeah there are idiots on bikes but in my experience the douches aren't riding Harleys and Gold Wings, they're riding crotch-rockets like they own the **** road. Bad drivers (in cars) are bad drivers, period. It's just worse when they smack a cycle because, as you noted, no armor.

I'd like texting/cell use while driving to carry the same penalty as a DUI.

Sure, I look at it the same way as me and semis. I could act all entitled and **** and try to zip in and out because I'm faster than they are but those warm fuzzies of superiority won't help me when I get crushed under a tractor-trailer.

No need to be so reasonable about it.

I don't see the appeal of motorcycles, but I don't see the appeal of driving so that's probably a part of it.

I don't see the appeal of motorcycles, but knowing people who have lost limbs because of bike crashes will do that to you.

I'd be interested in a motorcycle if I had some rural backroads to take it out on. I'd never take it on the highway or busy major roads.

I've been a huge fan of motorcycles for as long as I can remember. One of these days I'm going to need a liver and motorcycles help ensure that there's a decent supply.
