Well, except for .Net programmers. But really, windows is fine once you tame it and iron out the quarks. And the leptons.

I'll politely ask you to revise that statement, Ari. Smiley: mad

I don't only run Windows at home, though.
The programmers I know all have more OSes than sense...

At home I run Windows 7 on my main system and have a Fedora Core Linux box running that I use to goof around with. I'm also developing my own 32-bit general purpose OS from scratch. My long-term goal is to have a functional computer running software written entirely by me.

At work I use umpteen versions of Windows, Linux, Solaris, VxWorks, LynxOs, RedHawk Linux. I also work with a really old custom OS that runs on an old Motorola 68K for which I have to program mostly in assembly. Yuck.

Why not an Android? I find them superior anyway.

Yea but why does his work limit him to two inferior phones in the first place?

I run Windows 8 at home and at work. Yes I'm a .NET developer, but I also do ruby, python, and occasionally, node.js. The perception that "competent" = "linux" is ridiculous, as is the unwarranted hatred for Windows 8. As a Windows 8 user for going on 8 months now, I can honestly say the only really annoying aspect of it as a desktop user is when certain file trigger a "metro" style app to open, or when I try to alt tab and have to navigate around 6-8 hidden "metro" apps in the alt-tab screen to get where I want.

Back on topic, if you can't go android, Windows 8 Phone is a good choice. The "metro" interface is actually rock solid when it comes to touch screen devices.

Yes, all you need to do is add a crossover cable.

Because they don't know better?

The course in college where we worked with the 68HC11 was probably the most fun lab I had.

Because people who are more important than me haven't demanded android phones. My opinions on the matter are irrelevant.

Basically, I expect in 3 or whatever years when the contract on my new phone is up, THEN, I might be able to choose an android because someone who is important will have wanted one by then. Until then, nope.

On the bright side, when I started I got a flip phone. Then it was a blackberry... not even any choice about which one. So getting to choose between phones is a step up.

Damn, 3 years is a long time for a phone contract... At the end of the 2 years mine lasts I'm starting to really want a new phone and it's starting to show some serious wear, I'm nearing one year with my current phone now and it's already starting to bother me at times (like not being able to handle movies well unless they're 480p or so).

I've considered moving to a 1 year plan but that costs a good bit more per month so it's not quite worth it to get rid of those last few months of waiting for a new phone.

Windows 8 on a WINDOWS phone.. I'll pass. I had one of the first windows smart phones, before the release of the first iPhone and it was great, but I simply see no reason to get a windows phone.

My theory is that Microsoft created Windows 8 just to force people to adjust to their windows phone interface because they have a large PC OS base. Doing so, people will feel more comfortable using their phones because it's the same interface.

That's very Apple-ish... Let me choose what I want, because of that, I will forever be an android user, Samsung preferably. Speaking of, just got myself the Galaxy S4, yesterday!
