Speaking ill of the deceased...

I have a huge number of lawyers/judges in my extended family and family friends. As appalling as the reality is, if a rape case is going to be a "he said/she said" matter, then in our current legal system, most victims would save themselves months or years of hell trauma by NOT going to trial. Rape trials are gruesomely hard on the alleged victim, and after the trauma of a rape, it's not worth piling on more trauma.

It's a huge moral dilemma all around because while not going to trial is usually in the very best interests of the present victim, there is the great problem of the offender feeling (and being) free to offend again.

It takes an extremely mentally strong and emotionally secure and stable woman or man to take a rapist to trial, and blaze the way for others.
