You know why Deer jump in front of cars at night, right?

It's because they're the dumbest animal on earth, but allow me to illustrate:

You're approaching a deer on the side of the road at night and at speed. Your headlights illuminate the deer and cast a shadow behind it.

You are a large, loud, and bright moving object coming towards the deer, but they tend to be used to that.

The problem is deer are probably the stupidest creature you'll ever encounter.

Remember your headlights casting a shadow behind them? Well as you get closer, the angle changes and the shadow moves slowly behind them.

Then it moves faster.

Then when you start getting really close, the shadow speeds up even more. Just as you're about fifteen feet up the road the shadow crosses behind the deer if they're facing up the road.

So now the deer, being a stupid f*cking deer, notices a fast moving dark shape behind it. The deer would rather take it's chances with the familiar two tons of metal going 40 miles an hour than it's own goddamn shadow and jumps away from the latter, right in front of your vehicle.

Kinda makes sense doesn't it? Why their timing tends to be perfect?

The Swedish Moose Joke:

The Set-Up:
Skip to 1:07, and watch until 2:10. [Sorry, I have no editing skills] Meanwhile, Rimmer (the narcissist) has failed his Space Corps exams 7 times, but he's DETERMINED to pass and is studying hard...

Deer are in cahoots with the insurance industry. They are on the take to drive your deductibles up.

Actually around here in Michigan, the conspiracy theorists are saying that the insurance companies are in cahoots with the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) and have been introducing diseases into the Whitetail Deer population to reduce their numbers and by extension reduce the number of Vehichle/Deer collisions.

The latest one has been an outbreak of EHD. Official word is the drought has caused it, something about how the creatures to act and the biting flies that spread it. I guess people are finding small 'herds' of deer laying dead in fields because of it.

There's also Bovine TB and the Chronic Wasting Disease.
