Today I received an 8.7% raise, and am now finally making more than I was in 2008. While not exactly a hard 4 years, it wasn't very motivational knowing I kept learning and growing, yet kept making less than when I was fresh out of college.

We're mixed here. I'm getting my first raise in 3 years myself, and our lab just had our best FY ever, revenue is more than 2x what it was in the depths of things. However we just got a e-mail saying there are changes underway for the employees on the state retirement program (which I'm thankfully not a part of!); apparently the costs per employee are expected to balloon from about 14% of salary to 25% of salary over the next 5 years, and they are going to take steps to address things.

Congrats on the raise, but with inflation your buying power is still less than 2008.

We were recently reclassified into different positions. These new positions start at approximately 8% more than I'm currently paid. Two new people were hired in under this classification. Once the Department of Administration approves to reorganization for our department, I should have my wage increased to the new amount. By my count, I am also owed $653 as of today in back wages since the changeover happened. The first part is already pending with HR for the reorg. I'm going to wait to push hard on the back pay until DoA approves the change.
