Alesmith, Green Flash, The Lost Abbey, Port and Stone in that city. That's a lot of world class beer for 1 city.
That's something that I really need to take advantage of since I'm only an hour and half away. I've sampled most of the beers from the area but haven't been to any of the breweries.
I'm just going to say that I hate you for having easy access to so many fantastic breweries. If it wasn't in the US I'd consider moving to San Diego just for the beer. You can probably get Anderson Valley, Anchor, Lagunitas, Russian River and others pretty easily too.
Edited, Jun 1st 2012 7:51am by Aethien There are some pretty good microbrews starting to pop up around the New Orleans area as well. Abita has been here for a while and is kind of the New Orleans answer to Sam Adams with all of the seasonal brews. Covington Brewhouse also recently opened and is supposed to be pretty good. The best thing about New Orleans, though, is Cooter Brown's. It's a dive bar in the Garden District/University area that has over 300 different varieties of beer, including 120 or so on tap at any given time.
They also offer a "Beers Around the World" adventure where you get a card and once you try 100 different beers you get something free. It used to be you would get 5 free beers, but that was a few years ago so I don't know what it is now. they also serve really good New Orleans dive bar food, like roast beef poboys, fried shrimp poboys, cheese fries, and other stuff.
