Beer! Black beer!

On a sidenote, there's something called Schwartzbier as well, I wonder what that tastes like.
Also rauchbier, which is supposed to taste a lot like meat, go Germany for combining the flavours of beer and meat.

I've never had a rauchbier that tasted like meat, myself. I know that they're supposed to be smoky (rauch = smoke). I had just figured that the smokiness was sort of like of the smokiness of a barbecue, and therefor vaguely reminiscent of meat, but I suppose I wouldn't at all be surprised at meat beer, either.

My dad always pours beer over his barbecues.

Nothing like pork and beer to scare the in-laws away from his place...

Schwartzbier is a light-bodied dark lager. I've had a few different varieties and they've been pretty good. One of the local breweries (Taps) makes a pretty good one.

Rauchbiers are awesome. I've only had about three different kinds but they were all great. For these beers they smoke the malts while they're drying out which is how it gets that great smoky flavor. Smoked porters are great as well.

I have fond memories of Weihenstephan Hefeweizen. That was one of the first beers I had that showed me what a beer could taste like. Up until that point I was drinking Heineken and Coors Light.

The Hefeweizen is amazing, although I prefer Vitus if it's cold. Vitus + stamppot with sauerkraut <3

And next time I get to Amsterdam Ill pick up one of the rauchbiers then, should try that. Not sure why I didn't pick one up last time.

Alcohols generally make great marinades. It might be ultra short timing, but any beer over BBQ meat sounds great to me, and I flat out will not drink beer as a drink because I hate the flavour of beer by itself. Guinness is also awesome in stews.
