Or the actor who played him did anyway.
Quote:
(CNN) -- Former Olympic fencer Bob Anderson, the man who wielded Darth Vader's light saber, died Sunday at 89, according to the British Academy of Fencing.

Anderson's film work began when he was a swordfight stunt double and coach for Errol Flynn in the 1953 movie "Master of Balantree," but perhaps his best-known job was when he put on Vader's helmet in "Star Wars" for the famous duel with Luke Skywalker, according to the Internet Movie Database.

He represented Britain in the 1952 Olympic fencing competition, according to the 2009 documentary "Reclaiming the Blade."

"He was truly one of our greatest fencing masters and a world-class film fight director and choreographer, and both the fencing community and film world will miss him," Philip Bruce, president of the British Academy of Fencing.

Anderson "passed away peacefully this morning at 4 a.m. in hospital," Bruce said in a posting on his group's website.

He also served as swordmaster and trained the lead actors in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "Pirates of the Caribbean," according to IMDb.com.

His credits include the 1993 remake of "The Three Musketeers," "The Mask of Zorro," "The Legend of Zorro," "Die Another Day," "The Princess Bride" and "The Parent Trap."

So he was RotJ Darkside Cave Vader, and not the main actor. Still sad to hear that, though.

He was the guy that did all the actual light saber action though and that's kind of the whole point of Star Wars.

Darth Vader was one of the true definitions of a character. His voice, his sound effects, his menacing full body costume, and three actors separate from his voice that all worked together to create a creature apart from them.

Compare that to the actors in the newer trilogy tapped to play Anakin - almost entirely hated for their roles, because they failed to bring any real character to the young man who would become our beloved monster.

For a split second I felt joy that Hayden Christensen had died (perhaps from some form of blood-born illness...), preventing Lucas friom ever again employing his emo acting abilities to smear the name of Darth Vader again...

but nnnnnnnnNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo....

It was someone actually worthwhile ; ;

Actually, the infamous "nooooo!" had its roots in the '80s. When Darth Vader found out that the person who blew up the Death Star was a young rebel named Luke Skywalker, the reaction was:

"Skywalker?" then a double page spread of

"SKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYWAAAAAAAAAAAAAALKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKERRRRRRRRRRRR"

Since that came out before the 2nd movie, no one realized it was sort of a spoiler yet.

They should bury Hayden Christensen with him.

I was about to say I was under the impression that Dave Prowse was who played Vader in the films. After reading the article I see it was just the fight stunt guy. A shame nonetheless.

And maybe now they'll put his force ghost at the end of RotJ in the next re-release of the films, so Hayden Christensen can GTFO of the original trilogy.

I'm even more impressed that he choreographed the Princess Bride sword fighting. One of those fights is the lengthiest, and to my taste, the best sword fight I've ever seen.

At the top of the cliff, or between Inigo and the 6-fingered man? Because both are awesome.

If I remember right, he also taught Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin fencing and sword fighting for a few months prior to filming so they'd look natural doing those scenes. It worked brilliantly, and hey, Cary Elwes has put it to good use ever since. (Ah yes, Wiki confirms it.)

I love the cliff top one with Westly doing loop-the-loops on conveniently placed crumbling architecture.

A fine scene indeed. Especially with it starting left handed for both. :D

a fensing salute is when you bring your blade up sharply paralell to yourself, then swish it downward in a diagonal arc. if you do it right, no one loses an eye.

It's not my eyes I'd be worried about...
