The time has come to make the most important decision of today.

Stir fry, Omelette or a sandwich.

For breakfast ? Stir fry unless you have primo ingredients for an omelette. Omelettes is serious business.

I just had to make a difficult decision. I turned down a 3-week conference in Bangalore this summer because I've decided to focus on something else in my life. It's a shame, because I imagine a three-week conference in India would be 21 days of this.

My uncle who is an Archaeologist and his Anthropologist wifey travel there at least once per year and love it. The only warnings they gave were about the monkeys, apparently there are lots of wild monkeys and their antics aren't that cute. (stealing stuff, throwing things, pulling your hair etc)

I envy you, I would love to have a job that allowed me to travel all over the world. Then again, I'm not as smart as you are so thats the pay off, I guess ;)

I'm starting a business to keep myself busy with. I'm going to play with dogs and hopefully make enough cash to stretch my savings for another 70 years or so. :)

Nope, I'm not becoming a dog farmer. I am going to pet sit and walk dogs right here in the Old Dominion.

I am not qualified to be a dog trainer. Abby's trainer still seems like a powerful Sufi Mystic to me. :/

If you have experience as a vet tech and/or trainer you can make bank (assuming you're willing to do training and medicate animals, of course). A friend of mine out here has been a full time dog walker for... 15 years? I guess?

Down sides, not that she minds too much: absolutely no holidays and she works most weekends. Has to be bonded and insured. People are friggin' weird about their pets.

Up sides: works for herself. Gets to work with animals. Has a built-in excuse for holidays. Makes enough to afford a house in San Francisco.

Some of her clients have her walk their dogs twice a day because they, the clients, work 12 hours and just don't have time. I don't get the point of having a dog you never see, but whatever.

All of her business comes in from references at this point, but early on she got some vet offices to let her put business cards on their counters. It helps that she had worked with the vets as a tech. I think she's also listed in the Yellow Pages and what not.

dog walkers and sitters (good ones) can make bank. We were looking at a company in L.A. that would visit your pet for 30 minutes a day at 30-50 per day. (more or less depending on if it's cat or dog and the size of the dog) - you could pay for longer visits and special treatment (baths etc)

I'm planning on taking training classes because I would eventually like to start doing training. It's an interesting business, and I feel like I'm in a good position where I am. There are only 3 competing firms, and none of them service the two very quickly growing and very affluent suburbs in the neighboring county.

I've been talking to some of the local vets and they'll be adding me to their sitters list, as will several of the adoption agencies in the area. I volunteer with one local rescue organization and they're going to plug me as well. It's been a lot of work so far setting everything up, but I think it's going to be a good business for me in the end. :)

You'll love it or hate it, and you'll know very quickly whether it's a good fit.

Where do you stand on exotic pets and tropical fish? My friend refuses to take care of tropicals.

Birds, ferrets, iguanas... no problem. Tropical fish, no way.

I had an edamame and wasabi salad that I bought at Cosi. God I love that ******* salad. Smiley: mad

I think Mindel's new career sounds great. Being around animals can do alot for you. And people like their pets to have reliable carers.
