I enjoyed the new Star Trek film so much that I will go out on a limb and say that it was the best Star Trek film since The Wrath of Khan. I feel like every character beforehand sat down and decided how there characters would react and act as if the events in their early careers where going to happen that way.

First and foremost props to Sylar, Harold, and Shaun. All of them where IMHO risky at best, and they all came through as great characters. I loved seeing Chris Pine try to act as William Shatner's Kirk, and then take his own during the times of crisis.

The movie perfectly transitioned from 'THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE ORIGINAL STAR TREK' to 'OMG TIME WIZARD MADE IT THAT WAY!' without missing a beat on J.J. Abrahms decided direction on the movie. Minor things where changed like the graphics on the teleporters to Vulcans ears, but it didn't hamper the fun of the movie at all.

I'd easily give this movie a pointless 9/10, and recommend you see it opening weekend which I predict will be well over 100,000,000 box office.

Super. Glad to hear it wasn't a disappointment. Still, as a TNG fan, I'm apprehensive.

TNG it was not, as a fellow TNG fan I was expecting more of a pulp style due to it being based on the original series.

Edit: I would actually like to mention the G.I. Joe preview appeared for this movie. It actually didn't look all that bad, and I'll probably go see it.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to note that DS:9 was much, much better than TNG.

Meh, it was less about Star Trek and more about Quark. Enterprise had more of a exploration feeling, they also had Q, the borg, and Deanna Troi.

I never got into DS9, but I always felt TNG had the most expansive story line. And the cast was my favorite. I literally enjoyed watching every cast member, all the way down to Broccoli and Wesley Crusher

The latter is one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen on any programme ever. Just because they weren't exploring within the plot of the show itself does not mean it was not an exploration of the setting for the people watching the programme. Things never really changed in TNG - it was just a series of virtually standalone episodes stringed together into a series.

I give it 7/10. It was good, but it tended to stray a bit too far from the source for my liking. Especially the bit between Uhura and Spock. That just felt too forced.

As to previews, the first three (Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Terminator) were made of pure win, I was glad I made to the theater early enough to see them.

That's a bad thing? I've watched 100 shows that have failed for a over weight mythos that more or less bored the audience after the 2nd and 3rd season. The great thing about what you mentioned is that it can be as deep, or as shallow as you want it to be. Stargate is also a show like that, I can watch starting with random episodes in Season 6 or I can watch the show for S01E01. The only show that I've seen that has caught people from episode 1 and beyond that you had to watch every episode in sequence that actually worked was Twin Peaks.

I'd also like to mention Voyage that had the same core of being able to watch any episode randomly, to watching it in sequence.

Oh man... next sentence is going to spoiler tags...

I like the part with Uhuru and Spock embracing each other, especially in the elevator, it was critical to Spocks purpose in the movie. It grounded spock to him having to deal with his human emotions, and not shunning them once and for all. Forced or not I thought it was very important for Spock to have something that really forced him to accepting both of his worlds. I think it also helped tilt spock into protecting Earth for the right reasons.

Yes. If the status quo is restored after every single episode it grows predictable and boring. You don't have to watch every episode in DS:9 to know what's going on, or any programme (and Stargate, espeically after the first couple of seasons, is an example of this) where there's any significant character and plot progression - though it does make them harder to watch totally out of order, it's true. TNG has exploration, DS:9 has exploration and development.

DS:9 is better than Voyager, too.

Well, duh.

DS:9 > TNG > Voyager > TOS. Never watched Enterprise.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. Hopefully the crowds have died down by Monday.

You didn't miss much with Enterprise. I gave up on the show after the first season, so it could have gotten better, but I doubt it.

As to the crowds, I went to the 9:50 showing at the local theater and there were only six other people there, not surprisingly only one of whom was female. Apparently 9:50 on a Thursday night isn't the prime time to see movies. That works out great for me, I hate going to a packed theater. I like to really sprawl out with my feet up and get nice and comfortable.

Enterprise had a good story line, but one of the great things about TNG as mentioned is that you can watch any episode without having to watch 10 prior episodes to get all the back story. To say there was no development indicates to me that you might not have actually watched the show. For example, who could forget Data's continuing endeavor to become more human? What about the relationship between Riker and Troi? There were lots of little sub-plots that developed over the seasons, but none required you to watch every episode to keep up.

Also, the fanboy in me would like to point out (again) that TNG had the highest ratings overall of any Trek show, and spawned 3 (or 4?) movies. DS9 has how many movies? Yeah... Smiley: tongue

DS9 was so good it didn't need movies to improve interest in the series. They only made the TOS and TNG movies because the TV shows didn't have any serious plots that lasted more then one episode; all the stuff like Data's desire to be human, Riker/Worf/Troi triangle, etc. was just backstory/filler.

It wasn't so bad. I have them all on DVD. First Contact is by far my favorite though.
