On quick perusal, it seems a large percentage of the OOT posts are self-referential. Posts about OOT, posts about posting, posts about other posters. And I'm not just talking about today's brouhaha. It's a phase the Asylum went through for a while, too.

I don't think he is wrong. I think this may actually be the core problem of the OOT. Will self-referential posts and inside jokes we may it difficult for new posters, even the good ones, to break into the OOT. Too little content for discussion from external sources is posted, so we have to continually recycle internal content to survive, which leads to boredom and repetitiveness.

The OOT really has become a closed off society. Not just to new posters, but to outside information as well. Suggestions to remerge the media forum with the OOT should help, but I think posters need to start posting more threads where we're linking to some outside content.

Why did the Media forum split off anyhow? I always figured that's what the OoT was for.

Well, it used to be the "sci-fi/fantasy" discussion forum and existed before the OOT, sorta. I'm not sure why they decided all discussion of television and other media warranted it's own forum especially since the result seems to be three threads about the same tv show or movie across three forums.

It is rather lacking in variety. Perhaps not turning each thread into a page full of insults and inside jokes, or derailing threads just because you don't have any interest in the content would change that.

The OOT is boring these days.

It's dull when things like "What movies do you like" or anything like that are considered out of bounds for a general discussion forum. You are left with either political/intellectually driven thread, which are usually more interesting when they are in the Asylum or navel gazing.

I don't mind navel gazing though. That's just me. I don't know why, but with this whole move to another city, going to school, getting a new job, etc. etc. I've been more homesick than usual and more reflective of the small picture (in my personal life) because widening that gaze seems stressful right now. I just need to get through about three months of hard work.

I think the OoT is fine. People have some butthurt at the moment, but as soon as something witty is posted we'll be back pulling it apart.

I'm far more interesting than anything else that can possibly be discussed.

Discuss.

I find that the above poster has questionable parentage, and may also have issues with weight and sexual functioning.

I respond to your insulting diatribe by pointing out that your felicitous analogies are hiding some hidden mental issues from sleeping with your parents.

I follow up by mentioning a minor grammatical error.

Well, we can't talk about movies, books, video games, Pokémon, animé, Fight Club, politics, etc. Good thing people don't really care a lot about sports, or there'd be a separate forum for that, too.

I quote your post, making a slight alteration and bolding part of the text as to make light of your reply. I then go on to state that you are a part of a failed government organization that now, for some inexplicable reasons has chosen to refocus on issues dealing with the English language, or more specifically the issues with grammar.

I then close with an acronym standing for my desire to leave this forum, which I feel that I own.

I love sports, but I use actual sport forums for most of those discussions.

As do I, and if folks think this forum is a flame-fest they should wander over to some sports forums for a bit.

Well, the other thing is that I could spend alot of time with eiran discussing the Real Housewives of New York City and the upcoming New Jersey season, but then Ugly and his compadres would complaaaaain.

But really, God, I can't wait until the reunion. We should be on live chat. If you've seen the previews, Sweet Jesus.

First, I'd need you to discuss it enough for me to know what I'm complaining about.

A reality television show about rich, 30 something and 40something women? Ugly, you'd complain.

Yes I would. So when are you starting your thread? I'd like to make sure I allocate enough time to ******** about it.
