Right. Because, if there's one problem with Forum=3, it's the massive traffic there flooding "genuine forum issues" off the page

Didn't say a problem with the "forum", I said a problem with an admin/mod. L2R.

Genuine forum issues are broken mechanics in a particular forum. Not "This Admin hurts my feelings! QQ". Just like RL workplaces.. got an issue? Go to your manager in private. Don't send out a floor wide email or stand on your desk and scream about it hoping you'll be carried off like a rock star who dives in to the audience during a concert. Everywhere I've worked, that is an invitation to get know the security guards intimately on your way to your parking lot.

Some people enjoy a peanut gallery. I'm not such a fan of them. Drama is fun. Believe me.. I've caused enough of it in my life on the forums over the years to secure me a 5 Star suite in Hell when I get there. But, in Kao's position.. he's got more than just one forum to oversee. And, DF has a crap load more responsibilities than herding kittens here.

I fully understand the frustration that is occurring here. I have been in your shoes. I have participated on forums that make OoT and Asylum look like a trip to Disneyland or a visit with your grandmother. I have been the one getting muted, temp and perma banned for my voicing outrage about moderation. Hell, I went so far once, that I can't even open an EA account anymore for any of their games because I re-posted a PM from one of the developers begging me to stop posting. ;)

But, this forum mutiny is not the answer. It gets you no where except banned or muted. And, no matter how valuable your contributions to the community have been. Once gone, you will be forgotten and people will replace you. Usually in just a matter of weeks. That is how the Internet works. Keep in mind that many of you helped to contribute to the rules that existed prior to this whole crap storm. Creating loopholes intentionally and then exploiting them later is not acceptable. Go pay Bernie Madoff a conjugal visit if you want that kind of sympathy.

Now. I've managed to waste 30 minutes of my time that could be spent doing what I'm actually getting paid to do. Instead I'm lecturing several people (not directly the person I replied to.. just in general) how to interact like adults on the Internet.

Grow up. If my suggestion is approved.. you can complain till your heart's content about the Administration here in PM. And continue to complain about and belittle each other in the forums within the boundaries of the Rules. Cause in my opinion, its much easier to delete PM's than to babysit a forum full of people playing King of the Mountain on a soapbox.

Yeah that's what it is. Or maybe the thread is trying to become light-hearted, and you keep being a drama *****. You know, I'm going to go with that one.

Um.. no. I'm seriously tired of seeing so many people jumping on the admins. They didn't set out for this to be such drama. People stirring the pot and pushing and pushing made this happen. I blame the posters who are now threatening to leave and the ones that are (thankfully) muted for this current drama.

Okay, but what does that have to do with giving admins the ability to limit a poster's use of a function?

If you have so many threads in =3 regarding administrative issues that they threaten to flood off the "legitimate" forum issues, I'd worry more about what the admins are up to and less about which witty dismissive quips you can make about the immature, panty-twisted, yadda-yadda thread starters.

Oh, please... threatening to spam the forums with tons of sh*t would be "forum mutiny". Saying that people should be able to post something critical of an administrative action without it getting locked/nuked is not.

Sure, that's how it works. I don't think anyone has suggested that they're such a precious part of the machine that it can't function without them.

It really is an appropriate analogy. When I have a problem with a store clerk I don't create a scene. I don't go around telling everyone in line that the clerk is a jerk and they should never shop here again. I take it up with the manager. It doesn't matter whether I'm at work or simply a customer. You don't turn a personal complaint into a public protest.

See, that's the thing: No one is really "making a scene". It's a forum. You post here. That's what you do on a forum. I could see "making a scene" if people were posting in all caps every time or multi-colored or posting obscene images or something... but people are just posting. There's no "screaming". There's no "mutiny". There's no standing on desks or dunking the fry-guy's head into the boiling oil or whatever other comparisons people want to make. People are posting on an internet forum. The only issue is that some people don't like the ideas being posted no matter how civil or politely-phrased they are.

I missed this before but... um, what? Are we not allowed to complain now in PM or something? Your suggestion up for approval seems to be to do the exact same thing we can do now.

Edit: We're up to four admins now... quick, someone give me something to ****-talk Calthine about!

As much as people like to pretend, all caps does not equate to yelling. It doesn't matter whether people use "angry font" in their post or not, what matters is that the issue is public.

It doesn't matter whether I am screaming at the crowd or calmly asking each person in line never to shop at the store again. I should be handling the matter by discussing it privately with the supervisor.

Well, okay, but extending the analogy: I'd certainly talk to the clerk first before I fly over his head and complain to his boss. This is common courtesy. My complaint to his boss could get him fired, and if he's made a mistake I'd prefer to give him the chance to fix it.

No, it doesn't. And merely posting in a thread doesn't equate to "making a scene".

No one is asking everyone to never post again. No one is screaming or yelling. People are waaayyyy overinflating what's going on so they can say "Your reaction is way too extreme. You should stop it."

Well yes, but you wouldn't speak to the clerk over the intercom so that everyone could hear you.

While some may be doing that, this isn't the issue we are discussing. The point of contention here is public or private, not how rudely the matter is handled by any party.
