With the recent decline in posts, have you given any thought in doing something to bring back posters and gain new posters?
Forum population is something I watch on a regular basis. There was a huge, huge decline immidiatly after the site was sold, primarily due to the issues with that, and the lack of functional servers. The 8 month delay in server procurement cost us roughly 4,000 regular forum posters. We have been slowly growing since then, though the increased implementation of at work internet filters has slowed that somewhat.
We are actually on the rise again across the main forums. Some of the population has shifted to WoW or Warhammer, but the numbers overall are up.
We have been trying a variety of things to bring back more regulars. some behind the scenes, some more overt. And some are still in the works. I think from a forum perspective, one of the key things will be some enhancements to the forum system itself. Minor bugfixes, better image system tracking, better markup controlls, things like that. Unfortunatly i'm on the bottom of the stack for programmers at the moment.
Other things, we should probably try a few more "free premium" weeks, where people can try everything.
Another thing that should be done and is theoretically still in the works, is merging this forum system with that of all the other zam netwrok sites. With preferences and a post count that followed you all over the place, our population would quintuple overnight, and that would be the boost we need to start upward growth again.
Forum poulations are a gestalt. The faster the forum moves, the more time peopole stay interested, and the more content they generate.
if anyone has other ideas, by all means PM them to me.
