It's not semantics. The definition of a planet as determined by the IAU is of very little relation to any discussions Mike Brown has hosted regarding accretion discs.

I'm not an expert on the whole accretion disk thing, but I know enough to know that it very little to do with the adopted definition of a planet as it stands today. I would be interested in reading any such material, however, if you could provide a link. A quick search of his web site and google in general revealed nothing specific to your statement.
