Speaking of bikes:
My dad's a biker.. and wants to buy me one to go on trips with him and such (I told him it wasn't a big deal to me and I wasn't buying something I can't ride year round that isn't watersport related).
So, more to my question.. are the Non-Touring model Harleys ok for long trips? The only thing I've ever owned was a crotch rocket and it vibrated the holy fUck outta me, making hourly stops a necessity due to my *** going completely numb.
If you want a bike that doesn't vibrate, a Harley is probably not your best bet. Maybe a Honda or Yamaha, unless your Pops is one of those that would rather slam his own ********* in the window sill than ride with someone on a *** bike.
Edited as I realized the previous statement made little sense. When you say non-touring, I'm assuming you mean still a crusier, but not a full blown jobbie with the ferring, the recliner seat, stereo system, etc. You can still manage long trips fine, though I would recommend at least a snap on windshield for safety sake. Nothing like having a loose object fly at your face while doing 80mph to make you a believer. As far as comfort, you can get special handgrips that will cut down on vibration, even a rigged cruise control. Most important is a good seat. I did a 1600 mile trip on my bike this summer and it still has the stock seat on it, I had to stop every time I got gas and walk around a bit to loosen up, and at the end of the day I was pretty beat. A custom seat can make a world of difference.
