<--- only three atm. USMC banner (hence the attitude), banner heart (don't get tatted when off duty and extremely hammered ftl) on left arm and a winged tiger on right bicep.

Dear Tailmon, You've shown us a post of your Ranma tattoo before, but at the time I didnt' know more details about your personal life. I just have to say that using Ranma as a personal emblem for yourself is a stroke of freaking genius. How so very apt.

Heres one for you, a professor of mine has a tatoo of every one of the symbols for release sets of Magic: the Gathering in spiral around his bicep. Looks like a normal armband sort of thing to people who don't know, and awesome to those that do.

Honestly I don't know if I'm completely sold on it though. Just seems kinda over the top to me, and I love Magic. What do you guys think?

That's true. It's actually written "ヨーフィエル."

Sometimes I wonder if Tsu really knows that shit (moonspeak) or if he is just really good at blowing smoke up our asses. I give it a 50/50 chance.

I actually had it done right after my mother died. I was depressed and I needed something to wake me up. At first the artist I showed the design to wanted 500 dollars to do the tatoo. But it was to expensive. However, he was fairly remouned and loved anime also. on a weekley basis he would call me and drop the price. When it was at 300 I went in and had it done. It was in several tatoo mags that year.
I also had some really fanitical reactions from the Japanese that attended cons here. Many would take pictures of it. Now years later its faided and in need of recoloring and I need to print ou the orignal pix to have it redone.

My first tat was a print of my dogs paw that died when he was a puppy. I think that has meaning to me even if other people, like Overburn, have no idea how to mark a good or rought time in their life.

My second tattoo was a Gargoyle I drew, and got put on my lower back (yes the tramp stamp area), after I found out I got the "AIDs". I wanted something to watch my back.

How old is it?

Over 7 years now.

That's it? I expected the tat (considering the picture) to be much older then that. Your artist's inks don't hold up well. Looks like he was a cheap ******* and watered them down.

Better luck next time.

Never got inked myself, but hubby has my name inked among his tats. He wants me to get his name done. If I do, I'll have his name tatted on my wedding finger, under the ring. Smiley: grin

Actually, your a bit misinformed. Certain colors and inks do fade no matter what you do. Also, I've exposed mine to the sun lots and that aids the fading of it.
I was warrned about both and I have no problems with that.

When I was in college, tattoos were still really kind of edgy and people were just starting to pierce their noses. Then a few years later, suddenly, everyone started piercing and tattooing everything.

My question partly is what will people do in 20 or 30 years when they are tired of their tattoos and their ink doesn't seem as exciting or hip anymore b/c it's bound to fade from popularity.

I always think that it's a sign of generational stuff b/c under 30 people don't have the same reservations about being all inked up as I would--the image of my *** in 50 years with some ******* tattoo. I always wanted a box of cheese nips on my *** just to freak the tattoo artist out. Or Christopher Lambert on one cheek and "There can only be one" on the other.

With 6 tats of my own and the start of my sleeve, I doubt that.

I'm well aware of fading and other factors leading to it (ie the sun) but don't go making excuses for shoddy inks. For 300 dollars, the inks should been tip top, lasting far longer then a mere 7 years.

Names is #1 on my list of "things never to get tat'd ever".

#2 would be nick names

I want to get myself inked not for any symbolic reason, I just think they look cool. Course, though, this would happen when I get skinnier. Right now I'll pass.

I say in 20 or 30 years a tattoo will no longer looked down upon in the professional world.

Years ago a friend of mine got a green climbing vine tattooed on her ear. She's petite, as are her ears, and I thought it looked adorable.

She was on the subway one evening and heard some black kids behind her. One of them just couldn't get over it. "She gonna be 80 years old an' have that **** crawlin' up her saggy ol' ear lobe!"

We laughed about that, and then about all the old people named Kandi and Krystal who are going to be in nursing homes someday. Probably with tramp stamps and pierced labia.

Honestly, when I am 80, I could give a **** what I look like. At that point in my life, I hope I can have erection still with about 80 pills of viagra, that is an accomplishment.

Well thanks Ugly. I bookmarked that, because right now, I'm not sure if I just want a word or two, or a whole phrase. If it's just one or two words I'll definetley use that though, thank you muchly.

I have always wanted to get the Gemini twins castor and pollux tattoed on my back somewhere in their constellation form. I have run into problems finding variations that are smaller rather than a ginormous jumble of dots.

So that makes you an expert? Pfft!
Tell me then can you list the reasons they fade?

You could do a simple line drawing in a connect-the-dots style (and then remove the lines, or do them in a different color).
