MMORPG ProjectFollow

#1 Oct 19 2007 at 6:10 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Hi,

I’m an online gamer and I am currently gathering data for my PhD thesis. My project attempts to examine the impact of MMORPGs on our lives. I need participants to take part in my project. I’ve decided to use online interviews to collect data. There are 3 ways in which you can take part:

1.Via email; I send you the questions, you answer them in your own time and then send the answers back to me.

2.Live Online Interview; I could interview you via MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger at a time that is convenient for you.

3.In-game Interview; If you play WoW then we can meet up in Azeroth (may be Ironforge, Stormwind or Darnassus). However, I can only meet you if you play on a European Server!

The link below provides you with more details about my project.

http://ess.ntu.ac.uk/sutton/formfiles/N0165898/intro.htm

All participants must be aged 18 or over. I need as many participants as possible, so your participation would be greatly appreciated. If your interested then please email me at; zaheer.hussain@ntu.ac.uk

Please state which one of the 3 ways is most appropriate for you in your email.

Sorry for the shameless plug. Thank you for your time.

See ya.

zaheer.hussain@ntu.ac.uk

Pfffft! Don't knock us just because we are Americans.

I don't have access to the internet.

But I've met so many beggars in Cardiff. After unloading some change on one, he demanded more. The valet in the toilets at clubs asks for money every time he provides you with soap. Every single time. No wonder some guys just don't bother. Oh, and there's a **** tonne of activists and protesters and people hawking stuff clogging up the main streets at all times, except early morning when some are replaced with people giving out Metro newspapers.

I don't have the motivation for surveys right now. Maybe later on.

I'm thinking he hasn't changed his settings to see sub-default posts and thinks his post just disappeared.

The American my flat supported the French in the semi final of the rugby cup just because they were playing against England. The French. Against your close ally, England. Smiley: disappointed

Mrs Gemini,

I didn't mean it like that. I just can't play WoW on a US server cos I'm in the UK. But I would like as many Americans to take part in my study. Please feel free to take part.

It probably isn't, but email addresses given out are apt to get spam. Post your questions on the forum and people will probably answer.

Hi,

I did not mean to offend any of you gamers. I've been a member of this forum for quite a while now. I know I haven't been here as long as the majority of you. But may be time will tell.

AtillaScholar I hope you do not take the negative reaction personally. This can be a very hedonistic forum, so threads by low count posters that offer neither comedy nor drama tend to be rated down. Also please try to understand that requests to participate in such surveys are not a rarity, so many members are tired of seeing these topics.

I would like to add that for those who do participate, they usually enjoy seeing the fruits of the project. It might be nice for them if you would email or private message them a link to your final presentation.

I wish you luck.

Allegory Scholar

Thank you for your post and advice. I haven't taken any of the posts negatively and I don't feel offended. I know other people post on here for participants. If participants would like to see the final presentation then please do say so in your answers. I've added a part where you can add a comment or request in the study. I'll be quite happy to send all participants the final presentation.

why the hell would a PhD student waste thier time doing a thesis about MMO's?

Do something useful, a thesis about the reason Africa remains a sh*thole dispite trillions of £ in aid, or better still shoot yourself in the face so i don't have to support your dumb *** while you squander you education.

To Baron von tarv,

You have asked the most important question of our time. I think it may be because we are so selfish and self-centred. So we only focus on our own ego's and pleasures. I agree, research is needed to discover why the third world has not improved despite so much funding.

We do not know whether the developed world are keeping to their promise of donating to Africa. I'm researching MMOGs because it was the onlytopic for which there was an opportunity to do a PhD in. If it was my choice I would have chosen to do research that would have brought more benefit to humankind.

If this is indeed the case you perhaps you should have considered not doing a PhD and got a job instead.
#26REDACTED, Posted: Oct 22 2007 at 4:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, many Universities only have funding for research that is on their personal agenda. They tend to refrain from "Politically sensitive" topics. Job prospects are substantially enhanced when you have a PhD. I encourage all the people who are on these forums to do a PhD!
