Well maybe, you pain in the *** @#%^er, I actually want the ability to choose. Maybe I don't want to be a stay at home mother. Fancy that. Maybe I wanna be an airline pilot and my husband wants to take care of babies. Now I don't have kids and I will still make less on average than a man and somehow that seems like a sh*tty deal to me based on your feelings about children.

Anna, read the rest of his thread, he actually did redeem himself.

I don't believe in redemption. I'm like the Old Testament God.

My "negative reaction" is you telling me that, because of my anatomy, I'm better suited to sit at home all day with the babies. You don't even know me, but you're assuming that is where my best talents lie, simply because I'm a woman.

Yes, I will call you a sexist, because that's the very definition of sexism.

Best talents? No. If you have children though, I'd give pretty good odds that you're better at raising them than your husband.

This has nothing to do with YOU, and everything to do with society in general. If you weren't taking this so personally, we wouldn't be arguing about it this much.

I feel sorry for you if you think raising your own children is "babysitting." Why would you have children if you don't want to take care of them yourself?

Again, I understand if you can't stay home with children for financial reasons. But if you can, why wouldn't you?

Why wouldn't you? Or any guy? Are men meant to pursue whatever individualistic dream they have and women to have their dreams reflected in their son's glory? I don't want reflected glory, thank you very much!

It has everything to do with me. I'm a woman, remember? And you don't know me and my husband. For all you know, he could be much much better at raising children. But all that aside, just because I might possibly be better, what with my anatomy and all, does that mean I should give up my other talents? Why? Why should I have to sacrifice just to have a family?

Yes, I would view staying at home all the time, with no other adult interaction, keeping house, with only a small baby to keep me company "babysitting." So you see? Perhaps I'm not the best choice to stay at home with the kids, am I?

Point to where I said that.

Anyone who is pissed at me right now, for god knows what reason, point to where I said a woman MUST stay at home.

I said women are better at child-raising. I said I wish society allowed for A PARENT (note: not "a woman") could stay home and raise them. I said I think women should get paid the same as men.

Get. A. Grip.

Here, for your enjoyment:

    DISCLAIMER

I am a 27-year-old white male, single, no children. I grew up in a two-parent household, where my mother was able to stay home and raise me and my brother the majority of my youth.

I don't drink, smoke, gamble, and I'm still a virgin because I'm not married. I'm not religious, I just think you should wait.

I hope that my future wife will want to raise my children.

    END DISCLAIMER

Now you know all about me. I come to this argument as an outsider to HAVING children, but as someone raised in a 'normal' family.

Think what you will.

I think the problem they have (and i got from you once you started mentioning biological preferences towards child-rearing and that being a basis as women should be made to do it over men) is that you assume since your mother raised you and did a good job, that (through inference on what you said) all women should do the same.

That pisses women off. Just because your mom did a great job it doesn't mean that that path is right for all women. It very well may be right that it is right for at least one parent to be home to properly raise a child, but you assuming for us what we should do based on your mom doing a good job pisses at the very least me off.

And thats really the issue we're into now.

Meh. Picking at someone who blatantly gives free ammunition isn't a trait I find impressive.

There is so much in there that belks gonna rip apart. Just a warning.

You should have just said, "And Daboder is kinda right (but for the wrong reasons) on the child rearing issue, children are suffering from having both parents working (to what extent is debatable), but that's not a woman issue per-se." and you would have been fine.

The rest is basically detailing why women tend to stay home as opposed to men. I also explain that it's not a woman's sole responsibility to stay home, just that it's more likely to be the case, the reasons why women are usually better suited for it, and given the choice most women would stay home with the children rather than going to work.

Belkira would rather further her career (or whatever it is she wants to do), and that's great for her, her husband can stay home or they can get daycare. There is nothing sexist in what I said.

I am a 28 year old white female, married, no children. I grew up in a one parent household, my parents divorced when I was 12 and my father decided he didn't want to see us anymore. My mother worked, and didn't stay home with me.

I didn't drink until I was 22 years old. I don't smoke, gamble, and I am obviously not a virgin any longer.

I turned out ok, too. It doesn't matter that your mother stayed home with you and mine didn't, I still turned out all right.

My husband's parents are still married. His mother has never worked. He was drinking and smoking pot in high school. He had sex as soon as he possibly could. He's still a good guy, but by your standards, maybe he's "tainted," I don't know.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove with your little "disclaimer."
