Well, that certainly explains the whole "70 cents on the dollar" pay ratio. Thanks! I feel ever so much better now.
Now you know what it's like to be Canadian! Smiley: mad

No, Canadian is worse. Paid 70 cents on the dollar, and stuff costs 50% more.

Now Canadian women... lets not go there.

Samira is right. Obviously women aren't smarter or else they'd get jobs that pay 30% more to make up the difference.

Ok, so the next time that a woman gets a job and she is paid less than her male counterparts, you want her to "rise above" that bigotry and "not deal with it."

i.e., You want her to settle for her lower pay even though she's doing equal work.

How bout she rise above it, by demanding equal pay for equal work.

You really are a moron, aren't you?

First of all, that was posted while I was writing my post, so I didn't see it, but even so, that may be true for some employers, but not all. Plus women have so many privileges and benefits that men just don't get. If anything us men should be complaining about oppression.

That's called the feminist movement. You know, that's what women want.

Men get paternity leave at most places.

Well, also, the more relevant issues is that women actually have to give birth and breast feed. Guys, not so much, so the need to be at home during the early part--especially the month that is usually paid instead of the unpaid two months after that--is usually based on biological realities around childbirth.

When Daboder starts popping babies out of his man-****** and feeding them with his man-boobies, then he can complain about the inequalities of life.

I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that they realized it was a medical leave, and they're just pissy that they didn't get the "time off."

Speaking from a Canadian perspective, men get less time off for this and get paid less for that time off. Mind you, our maternity/paternity leave is far above the US, so both are still better off.

I find it odd that women always clamour about inequality, then bring up childbirth. Childbirth is a natural inequality. Men and women are inherently unequal. You can't have it both ways.

Not that I agree with everything he proposes but read this anyway.

The good new is that it also comes on DVD for the illiterate.

Oh! The public broadcaster in Oz aired Guns, Germs and Steel not too long ago. I found it fascinating. All these sorts of things slot into my background general knowledge of biological, social and cultural evolution of the whole world for the last several millenia.

Experts can argue back and forth about the details, (which are very important) but I think a thesis like this stands up very well as a worldview. Perhaps not exactly my worldview in all ways, but certainly A legitimate worldview.

The section on malaria was powerfully, emotively done. It made me more glad than ever about the huge resources the Gates have sunk into malaria research. It's quite possible that if that money finally solves the malaria problem that Africa will go through a renaissance, and catch up to the world in a matter of several decades.

(Yes, yes, Africa will still have all the other drawbacks it has at present - but doubling the life expectancy is going to mean that there are more experienced people around to tackle the other issues.)

It's not an inequality--it's a difference. I'm not sure what this proves about anything other than you have a chip on your shoulder.

I think the biggest question is: Do you have a right to be offended if it's scientifically supportable and proveable?

So if this guy said "Antarcticans are dumb, and genetics proves it", where the Antarcticans do not have a ready system of lawyers and politicians at their disposal to scream "LAWSUIT" and "RACIST" whenever someone looks at them sideways. Where would the uproar be?

In other words, are we being offended because we're trying not to sound bigoted (and lets face it, the ACLU has a LOT of lawyers), or are we being offended because he looked along racial lines to begin with (ooooh, how DARE he use all information available to announce a theory, even the politically FORBIDDEN information.

Or are we offended because he's correct, and we're not ALLOWED to think that way.

By the way, my opinions are not expressed anywhere in this post. I'm just pointing at stuff.
