Had enough. What would you do?Follow

Last May the company I'm working for announced that they were moving my branch of the company to Tenn. This was under the guise of "Cost savings". The excuse was that the building we were in was raising rates and was no longer owned by the company's owner's uncle. (Truth is that they have owned buildings here to use but its someones Baby to save money by loosing millions doing it)
Anyways, they could not give definate dates because they had to set up other building and train people. They offered jobs only to a select few and gave them a pittnce to move to Tenn. The rest of us had 6 months to find a job inside the company. Only a select few found jobs. The company also announced they were cutting 10k more jobs durring this time and has been laying off people. The only thing that at least helps is that I get a layoff package that gives me 1k per year that I worked for company.

Fast forward to today. I sit with zilch job prospects inside company. I know for certain that dispite my years of experience and skills that the company wants only desperate people that will take less money for lower paying openings. I'm certain this is one of their cost savings they planned. I also will not find a job do to my Gender status. Several interviews told me that our company discrimainates no matter what they advertise. I've been depressed and saddened by what my loyalty and the massive amount of things I did that saved millions for the company mean nothing. So I sit with several options.

1. Wait till the end. possiblly mid Dec for layoff.
2. Take package early and leave end of November.
3. Take package early and leave end of October.

Pretty much Moral is in the toilet and I dread working there now. I've watched the people and wonder if someone might go postal. I had sudden meeting with this HR girl and my manager. I told Hr girl that I had my own HR person I deal with and not her. She asked me what is wrong several times. WTF? I'm loosing my job! Duh! I asked about taking my package early and manager mumbled "Well, you have to change shifts.... She was cut off by NO! from the HR girl. I repeated my question and was met with a No! absoloutely not! from her. I already knew several people that have taken their packages early. So, this was rather fun. So Meeting over I called my Real HR person and have meeting Tuesday. The next day I was returning from bathroom and the HR person was talking with someone else and rudely dropped from conversation and said "I need to meet with you!" I said no. she then left that person that said hey! I was talkin to you to badger me with several meeting trys to which I said no to and that I did not want to deal with her and left. So later in the day after I left she schedules meeting anyways. I declined (E-mail) and replied to her E-mail with that I do not deal with people that lie and have no integeraty. My Building director asked me what was going on and the next day the meeting was withdrawn. Gaah! this place is so messed.

So, which option should I take?

Although I am unable to know how you feel on a personal level - I would try to hike it out as long as possible - while shooting my resume to anyone who will have a look at it. Maybe try to do some networking? (Find someone with some pull in a certain company, ask if you can have a 15 minute meeting with them and just talk about their career)

Then when you leave, thank them for their time and ask for the names of 2-3 other people who you might be interested in speaking to. Then, a week later - send the first person a cover letter in disguise as a thank you letter...then enclose your resume. This is a rather old fashioned technique, but it's still one of the better one's.

In the end, it really is more about who you know than what you know. The fact is their are plenty of people who are smart and able to do a job well. Knowing someone personally, or even a simple and brief acquaintanceship is sometimes enough to pull their favor towards you.

Now, far be it from me - a 20 year old kid - to be advising someone such as yourself. I am merely trying to be as helpful and supportive as I can possibly be.
I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors, and hope things will work out for the best.

Do you have another job lined up already? If not then stick around as long as you can until you do.

Pretty Much all big companys do the Get rid of the workers that have been there long enough to have capped vacation and pay to save money. It's good business!

whatever you do, on the last day of your job bring in a boombox pop in a polka CD and crank it while, of course, wearing rapper attire.

Take the early package and get yourself back into the job market before everyone else gets laid off and adds that many more people into looking for the same jobs you may be able to get.

I've pretty much decided on that path myself atm. Tomarrows meeting with the "REAL" HR person will be the final call on my decision. With my whole life pretty much swirling down the toilet I can escape with a pittence and my Sanity from what once was a great place to work at. More tomarrow!

Todays update:
Met with the For real HR peraon and she pretty much agreed with my observations.
I have Zero chance of getting another position at the company. I should be able to recieve my full package. Most likely early. She has to contact another person about the contract and the hows, when's. Since the Company seems to want me out like handling a hot potato. I'll make a bet that by Thursday I'll be gone.
