Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon

OMG! Someone else who's heard of her!
Ms. Hayden also has a new trilogy(?) of books coming out right now;, the first of which is entitled "Requiem for the Sun." If you've already read the Rhapsody trilogy, you'll love it.

AmEGO: If you're looking mfor something funny, check out "The Road to Mars" by Eric Idle (yep, the same Eric Idle of Monty Python fame.) It's a hilariously good read.

Try this: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair by Robert Pirsig

Or: The Cat Who Walks Through Walls by Robert Heinlien. It is Sci Fi but it is also so much more. Loads of radical social commentary. It will challenge your belief system.

Is that something like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?

David Sedaris is a good humorous author. You can catch a sample here.

Hehe Cydille yes I love Rhapsody. Just finished her newest book about 6 weeks ago and of course Im drooling for the next installment which wont be out for at least 2 years. Damn cliff hangers lol

Glad to hear someone else loves her work. My family fell in love with Grunther and named our Pug after him hehe (cheesy, I know but if you knew the book you'd find it funny)

"Big Trouble" by Dave Barry.

Good, light reading; you can knock it out in a night or two.

I've only read the first one, and it was funny as hell. I couldn't put it down.

Wow, I didn't know he wrote a book! I love his arcticles in the paper.

As for humor books, I don't really read much humor but any of the short stories books by Patrick F. McManus are really funny=D

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.. first book is called The Eye of the World.

Awesome series and very long and well written, 10 books so far, supposed to be 12 by the time it's done.

Actually, I've found the last 2 to be below par. Not to say they're unreadable, just that the series is going downhill. i'm still buying and reading, but my expectations aren't as high as they were at one time.

Try reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, if you liked those, though. It, and the sequels have been very good (to me, at least).

barely passable series and very long, dull after an good start not really all that well written, 10 books so far, only 4 of which are worth reading the rest are dross. supposed to be 12 by the time it's done, hopefully since the last 4 books have been amoungst the worst fantasy novels ever to escape a publishing office.
I though i better correct that incase you believed him.

Try looking here:

http://www.georgerrmartin.com

On the front page is a link called 'About a Feast For Crows.' He updates it every couple of months or so. The last update was a little (not much) testy, so you can tell he's feeling the pressure of wanting to compelte the book.

There's also an excerpts section where he occasionally posts a short chapter online to keep our appetites whetted.

The webpage doesn't change very often, but it doesn't really NEED to. You're getting info right from the horses mouth, so you can take it at face value.

Current status: the book's not finished, he's not sure when it will be, and it's really long.

AmEGO you should try reading a book called "Molvania - A land untouched by modern dentistry"
Its a travel guide to a fake country which is absoloutely hilarious. Reading is fun!

I've read a few books by Richard Russo, pretty good stuff. Very funny with some rather touching moments.

"Nobody's Fool", the basis of the '94 Paul Newman movie, is about an old small-town loser who goes through a series of hardships one winter.

"Straight Man" is about a cynical university English chairman who delights in wreaking havoc on his department and the school in general.

Actually no it was intended, that message wasn't for me, it was more in the way of informing other readers about a book i have picked up. Since everyone else was putting in suggestions, I thought why not put ONE of my own, because I have found one that others may find a good read. The humour bit was me talking to me, but obvioulsy some of you didn't pick up on that...don't worry, not a sockpuppet, I am actually a person! (gasps reaction from audience)
But still, keep those suggestions coming, they are helping alot thank you...

You should try reading The Divine Comedy by Dante. Not a comedy book or anything, and very long. But is a very good book nonetheless.

Peace.
