Hi, i've been pondering on which of these 2 graphic cards to upgrade my computer with. I'm aiming to break the 7500 for high resolution barrier. Please give a reason behind your answer too. Thanks in advance.

Just some additional information,

The Geforce Fx series sucked for FFXI due to the fact that FFXI was written/made/created in DirectX 8.0 and would not be supported by many vital features that the FX series had to offer, hence owning an FX card would only give you poor Benchmark results using the Vanadiel's Benchmark 2 tests. The Radeon 9600 Pro and 9800XT however have given great scores ranging 5000-7500+

The reason for such a stark contrast in performance is due to other additional factors like ram and processor speeds.

There is a lack of X800 and Geforce 6800 Benchmark scores in, well practically any forum. Thats why i'm having such a headache now.

moonyaco's link above was exactly the one I was going to post. If anyone is aching to play doom3 with a capable card, buy GeForce 6800.

Well, right now you probably won't need that much graphics power. Even with games like Doom3, Half Life, Far Cry, and hopefully we will see Halo2 on the PC. Right now the 5900XT series is most likely perfect for every game you play, and even the games I mentioned above. The biggest problem is if you are running a slower computer. I am currently running a AMD XP 1800+ 1.53 Ghz, 384MB PC-133 SDRAM, Gigabyte GeForceFX 5900XT, on a K7T Limited Edition motherboard. To don't get the real use of out that graphics card which just happens to use an 8x AGP slot (my motherboard only has a 4x), I would have to upgrade to at least a AMD64. Which I am going to be doing around December or January. Of course, then there is the problem with some of the new chipsets coming out. You have the new LGA775 motherboards which come with PCI Express, and seem to be replacing AGP. Although, I am more interested in the new Socket 939's over the LGA775 chipsets. I bought the $200 dollar Gigabyte GeForceFX 5900XT because it was affordable, and a good middle ground while I watched the new technologies. Even with the new graphics card I have seen a little change in gameplay, but right now my motherboard and ram are my biggest bottlekneck. I think it might be better to wait until the end of the year before you pick up a $400+ plus video card.

Go with the Geforce card. Soemtimes you buy from the guy who dominates the market because he has better stuff.

ATI makes some good cards and I always hear some good things about them. But if you want all-around playability, Nvidia sure seems to be a safer bet. I take it you don't plan on buying an immediate replacement if you don't like the card.

OK, if you're going to buy HL2 and Doom3, you should just have two different computers with the best stuff in it. HL2 works well with ATI, and nVidia works well with Doom3. So all and all, I'd get one for the PC, and one for the XBox.
