700MB Cannot be all there is available...Follow

#1 Jul 21 2004 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
hello,

i'm trying to burn an image on to a disc, when done the file is 708MB. the largest disc i've seen for sale is a 700MB (what i have at home), does anyone know if they sell bigger discs that are CD format? i do not have a dvd-r drive unfortunately.

in case there isn't a larger disc, i'm burning with nero 6, is there a program that is better for burning images; that could possibly archive the image a bit so it fits on a disc?

thank you for your response ahead of time.

Try the tech support forum.

Or, as an actual answer, buy a DVD burner. That'll dodge the problem entirely.

Yea, go DVD-R. Check prices on pricewatch.com. I believe they are running aroung $50 for a cheap one.

If you use the right hardware/software, you can burn more than 700MB on a CD-R. Check the link below or do some Google searching for "overburn" or "oversize cd-r" for more info.

Nero WILL overburn, but I don't advise it. That's why I didn't mention it before. Some CD burners aren't built quite right for overburning and can become physically damaged when you do so.

It's much easier to get a DVD burner and deal with the 4.7gb limit.

why dont you zip the file? probly take a few megs off the total overall size. unless you using the image to be directly access.

I'd just look for overburn capability on the hardware you currently have. No sense throwing cash at the problem until you know for sure if you need to. Also, is a DVD-R even going to be read by whatever drive you want to read the new CD image anyway?

Use winzip to span the image file to two seperate linked zip archives. Won't save you any space, but should let you split the file safely.
