Ok, I have heard that mIRC is a great file-swapping method, but I cannot figure out how to use it!! I have tried everything I can think of, even tried entering chat rooms just to ask how to use the stupid thing. Nothing. Can anyone help me out here?

Of course, I don't want to actually do any file-swapping, I just want to know how. ;)

Err, i would forget IRC, most of the people who still use it are elitest bastards. Use something like Bit Torrent and find yourself a good tracker page.

Ok, could you give me some tips on using Bit Torrent then? What is it, and how do I find a good tracker page? For that matter, what is a tracker page? I've only used P2P stuff like Warez and Kazaa so far, so this stuff is new to me.

I believe if you go to bittorrent.com and download the bit torrent downloader. Or if that doesn't work, google it. And once you have the downloader program go to http://suprnova.org and you can download movies/tv shows/computer apps/etc.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I'd definately go with bittorrent instead. Homepage is actually http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ though.

Suprnova.org is good, and you can find alot of anime at animesuki.com .

You should figure out how to nav mIRC with the help files. I completlly forget because I havn't used it in a while. Ever since FF i havn't been DLin as much. I used to use bit Torrent and didn't like it but I hear it has become a lot better. Although if it is new programs and software you want you can find it all on mIRC.

My buddy even set up a server and doesn't have to do anything, people just keep uploading stuff to him so they can download off him. All my sotware has been coutosy of mIRC =)

If you look hard you can find very interesting and almost disturbing stuff...

Although be carefull on mIRC, it's not the safest program as your IP is direclly shown and there are a lot of viruses around.

yeah, KaoBot rules IRC with an iron fist, so one of the others are probably your best bets.

mIRC probably is a good file swapping tool if you're patient.

ahhh mIRC, my oldest form of obtaining any media.

I've used hotline, kazaa, bittorrent, and other file sharing programs of the sort, but my heart still stays with IRC. I resort to the other programs if all else fails in IRC.

First, you have to be on the right server. Most efnet servers have channels where people are file sharing.

There's some commands to be familiar with, and there's conditions on rooms that you need to work around. If everyone's chatting and what not, you can do a !list to have all the bots in the room flood out their trigger commands. Trigger commands are set by the bot's owner and trigger the chat session between you and the bot (fileshare).

There's also rooms where the only ones that can say anything to the channel are bots. Usually these list off the goodies they have and there's no need to establish a chat connection. These are usually named with numbers and the characters: "x" "d and/or "c" in them. If you double click on these and send a private message to them of: "/xdcc list", some may list their contents to the room... its like a trigger/on-demand type of thing. Otherwise, you just wait.

Once you do find something that interests you, there's two ways to download it. If you're in a chat session with a bot, you'll need to do: "get (filename.ext)". If you're in the main channel and the bot is listing its goodies there, there's usually a packet # associated with the file. You simply remember the number, give a message to the bot and do: "/xdcc send #x".

But yea, there's a LOT more user friendly programs out there for filesharing. Searching for one specific thing on IRC is no good. I mainly go on there when I'm bored, have free space, and nothing else better to do with my time.
