So i get phone call my sister wants to go out and do something today so we are going around, i buy us a quick dinner and we take food and head back to her place cause she wants me to check out her computer because its been acting funny.

I looked at it and didnt know where to start, got ad-aware going and got a total of 800+ (thats right eight hundred!!) spy ware related stuff off. Then i spent next hour deleting close to 2 gigabytes of share ware games. Then i uninstalled 30 day trial of McAfee that had expired in 2002 and installed Norton Anti Virus 2004. I got all the music from every file sharing program that they had which was 3-4 into one file, got rid of the ones they had and got half decent one on.

Gave them my copy of Age of Empire 2 and BF:1942 to keep them busy, installed those. Also got them a firewall and set it up, did virus scan and removed some petty stuff, and then just organized start menu and desk top so they didnt have such a mess.

Im now her hero but whew, glad im not tech support or anything like that for a job.

It's amazing how **** like that comes up. At work we have two comps that run on one server. For some effed up reason, though one get used for internet surfing, the other one kept getting pop ups. Well, the tech ppl came today and cleaned them out. 700+ spybots, 500+ viruses, god knows how many trojans. Seriously, it was farking rediculous.

My mom's computer is equally fuggered. My brother's had her run ad-aware, and that's done nothing. She's run every program on Norton's, and that's done nothing (she says Norton's makes it worse). I've offered to buy her a new computer since hers is as old as a dinosaur (it used to be my old computer. I've gone through 2 more computers since then, so hers is about 6 years old now).

Hers is beyond repairing. I've offered to buy her a new computer (her monitor is fine. She just needs new hardware), but her stubborn self doesn't want to lose all of her files (which probably won't transfer to a new harddrive because her computer can't even reboot!)

Sometimes I wonder if people should go through a "this is how many times per year you need to upgrade and clean out your computer" class before given the responsibility of actually OWNING a computer.

man... my family only calls me for one of two things... pc problems, or family events. Here's how it goes...

I see my mom's # on caller id and hesitate. Upon answering the phone, if I hear my step-father, I know something is wrong with the PC... if I hear my mother, something is going on and she wants me to partake in the festivities (whatever they may be). Latest example was last week my mom called me. Sure enough.. needed help w/ a yard sale... just watching stuff so no one takes it. As well as setup/tear down. Its getting to the point I feel like just not answering the phone now.
