So where is BRD now?Follow

I haven't touched my BRD (except to level it) since 75 cap. It used to be my main job in the ToAU days (like everyone who had BRD back then lol) and I absolutely loved pulling in the old colibri camps or running constant party rotations in Einhejar (sp?..).

Does anything like that exist for BRD anymore? Something busy and fast-paced. The exp parties I've had since then never needed a puller and I was stuck just rotating songs for eternity, {Yawn}. I was thinking about putting together a DD set just to break the monotony but haven't gotten around to it, but that's just not the same. I plan on bringing one the next time I flag up on BRD anyways.

I guess my main question is what you guys actually use your BRDs for nowadays. I'm always stuck on THF, BLM, BLU, or WHM for Abyssea content. Most old content is too easy and low-mannable to need a BRD and the few VW I've done have always been on BLU. I really miss my BRD days. I was looking at all the gear I spent so long perfecting for fast, accurate, potent songs in a ToAU setting (which even includes a lot of gear SE has added since the cap raise when I stopped playing BRD) and it seems like such a shame to never use it to its full potential again. I loved the fast-paced setting for BRD in ToAU at 75 cap, but can't seem to find it again. I don't do a lot of endgame anymore outside of Emp-building, Dyna and the occasional VW (which I don't even have a lot of experience with yet), so maybe that's my problem.

TLDR: Feeling nostalgic for the ToAU days, can't find a use for BRD, and bored to pieces with it while I'm on it; disappointed because I used to love the job. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. First of all, there isn't much in the way of endgame these days, period. Second of all, brd in abyssea is sort of a snoozefest - which leaves only voidwatch or older events or maybe neo-nyzul if you want to try that (though blu would prolly be better there)

I use brd for voidwatch and for dynamis runs with my friends - though brd is only efficient in larger groups in non-COP areas. I find trying to magic proc to be pretty hectic - it might be the kind of experience you are looking for - though really it is just spamming threnodies as fast as you can and getting annoyed at how stupid magic proccing is.

My advice would be to work on that melee set and then try to do some neat things with brd that otherwise you wouldn't be able to achieve. Otherwise, you may not find many opportunities to use brd.

In a way I am happy I never fell in love with brd till after ToAU parties and oldschool dynamis so I don't have the same longing for the old days that others may experience. Good luck

I can't put my finger on why, but BRD has been pretty meh since Abyssea came out. I loved it in ToAU days, and I still keep it spiffy (added a Jellyhorn and 55/75 horns for Daurdabla 90, wich I will 99 if it kills me), but it just doesn't feel the same. I can't even get DDs to cooperate and align any more, they just expect songs to find them.

Maybe it's that nobody is /NIN, riding utsu timers, thanking god that Ni is back up. Maybe it's that the chain no longer hinges on Marches on your DDs and Elegies on the mob that's standing by. Maybe it's just us, the poor souls left after two rounds of server consolidation because the grateful people we loved to buff have gone away.

I need a kitten, stat.

Yeah, there's no content that you can really fail at, or if there is, it won't be because you're missing the BRD. I demand events that require rotating Jellyhorn/Daurdablabla BRDs to stand a chance of succeeding!

Well I just tried VW as a BRD, it wasn't half bad. I think I'll make it my go-to VW job. Back-up healing a VW PuG where half of the real mages were mules being dual-boxed was hectic enough to keep me from being bored, lol. Seeing what they did to the relic +2 body makes me more excited to make a DD set, also, but I haven't dabbled in that yet.

It may not be as fun for me as ToAU merit parties, but I've found something that BRD is useful for, that is also not mind-numbingly boring, so I'm happy. Hope it lasts!

As I said in the "where you stand in FFXI society" thread, BRD these days is the job I go to when someone is being a "relic/empyrean onry" epeen dick about an event. I can always change to a non-Empyrean'd, more useful job if needed after I'm in the alliance. But for a few minutes I get to glimmer as one of the handful of fully pimped bards on our server.

It is indeed Marie Curie, and they gave her a belly because she had a couple of kids before dying of radiation induced aplasiastic anemia... I think it's cute nonetheless.

Don't forget that with the proper use of temps, brd can help with dagger and staff ws staggers. Not much, but it does help break up the monotony of sing songs, help cure, sing songs, help cure.
