New Player: Leveling BardFollow

Sort of. it depends on the group you play with. I probably spent maybe a 30~40% of my time on brd, with the rest split between rdm and blm. If you play a group that doens't have many brds, it's certainly possible that you'll be stuck on brd 90%+ of the time, especially if you don't have jobs like rdm, whm, pld, blm, or cor.

Yeah, sams are a dime a dozen. With just sam and brd, it's fairly likely you'll be stuck playing brd most of the time. However if you get lucky, that may not be the case. Things vary from ls to ls.

There are many advantages to making BRD be your first job to 75.
- it isn't very expensive. Get all +1 instruments and all songs, and I'd suggest at level 51 investing in Apollo's and Terra's Staves - but as far as other weapons and armor. . . you can skimp on those and no one will complain.
- you'll get really fast invites. Not much sitting around LFG when you're a BRD. Level WHM and NIN for subjobs and you're good to go. (These also are party-friendly jobs, not too hard getting invites as WHM and NIN.)

At some level, in order to play BRD optimally, it is helpful to have a sense of the mechanics of the other jobs (which jobs really need ballad, which really need march [haste], which benefit from agility songs, etc.). But in most cases, you'll be serving parties a fixed menu of songs and pulling mobs like a mad man.


Only if you can't say "no". Who can blame them for wanting a BRD, but it really is up to you.
