Hello everyone!
For a while now I have been researching the job BRD and have finally come to the decision of leveling it up to 75!
I'm pretty well prepared for the early levels (10-20) in the Dunes/Quifm. I have the gear, songs, staves, and the text book knowledge for partying in Valkurm.
However, as I was looking through these forums, absorbing as much information as I can, I have not come across anything in relation to what kind of food a BRD should eat and at what levels...
Please help me out :) I'd like to start leveling BRD and have kinda come to a road block :p

To be completely honest, most bards don't use food, (at least the ones I have partied with) I know I don't either.
At 65 that should change as we can wear the Opo-Opo crown. While eating a pamama the crown gives +7 CHR, +50 HP and +50 MP, all for the low price of about 80gil (the price of pamamas in Kazam)
If you really want to use food there are a some cheap options for CHR food; Tuna Sushi and Flint Cavier are 2 of them. Here's all the food with CHR bonus on it
If you're subbing /whm, pies or cookies are always good to use. Good luck on your BRD career, it's stressful sometimes, but tons of fun

When you get to pulling levels, Tavnazian Tacos are great.
Other than that, flint caviar which is fairly cheap should do you just fine.
the only food i ever used when leveling was pies on the rare occasions that i was /whm. technically tacos would help for pulling, but with /nin it's really not needed, and with /whm for lower levels, i'd rather pies/cookies so i can spend more time pulling, and less resting. at higher levels i wouldn't really bother pulling as /whm, since /nin is so much better for it.

For leveling purposes, I agree with luxv: use Tav. Tacos for pulling (boost in CHR as well as DEF). I personally would avoid the Opo-Opo Crown since a Tav. Taco gives you better stat bonuses, AND frees up the head slot for something else. However, as with gear, your foods will change depending on what role you take.
If you cure a lot (perhaps at lower levels, where there is a lot more time in between pulls), using +MP food might be better for your party. It's very rare that bards will ever have to rest for MP, but it can happen with lower level parties (e.g. you help backup cure and need to rest while the melees take down the current mob).
You can start meriting as early as 60+, but your role will generally be the second bard (in which case +MP food again might be better). On the other hand, if you are pulling for a merit party, I recommend using Tav. Tacos until you get better gear and can reliably land elegy and lullabies with just gear. No one likes a puller who cannot stage mobs (i.e. land lullaby). A fully-merited bard with good gear will not require foods (of course no one will stop you if you do).

Just pointing out that /nin only helps mitigate damage; tacos still give you a boost in CHR should you need it.

If I remembered before going out to party, I'd grab a Chamomile Tea off the AH to use. It lasts three hours and gives a couple CHR plus 8MP and 1hMP; it usually doesn't sell for much more than 1k. It worked for me for the mid-levels until I started wearing Opo-opo crown and eating pamamas, like others have talked about.
ive been using tacos for a long time now but back when i leveled brd after ps2 release i think i used sandy tea.
