Got to 70, then got talked into a aby party. The trouble is, I need to get new axes. (I'm working on AF3+1 as fast as I can. Don't wanna be in pearle for long.)

I'm currently 83 bst, been trying to get some decent auged doom tabars for temps without much luck but...Any suggestions on gear, esp axes, that I should be trying to buy or magian up? Before you ask, I'm working on capping axe too; got both quested ws's now.

In the meantime, you can snag a Glyph Axe from Bakka. And then keep plucking away at Pet: PDT magian axes, etc. after that. :)

when you have some spare time, try to build up fame in aby-grauberg to level 3 so you can do the quest to get the ducal guard atma. with that atma, you will have a lot easier time soloing nms for seals if you have to. Also there is nothing wrong with full pearle, its a great set of gear.

Chinaman; since I've duoed SMN + BST with a friend of mine, I have had DG for quite some time. (Just so you guys know; if you're lowmanning, DG is as good for a SMN as it is for a bst; just smn be careful if you use it and make sure you got a duo partner because it can mess up kiting; avatar moving slow can stink in that situation) Also pearle may be OKAY but I'd rather be in AF3+1 ASAP.

And I'll do that fal ^^ Might ask around for help to kill it since I DO have summoner available to help.

A little bit of an aside, I remember how excited I was to get to the level where I could wear the perle set for the first time, and HOW excited I was today to finally get rid of the last bit of it.

Shadow; I'm like that with any job I take above 75. I try to get out of the "bridge" (and that's what I call pearle) gear asap. I don't go for top of the line (top of the line often involves Voidwatch and my VW luck sucks monkey butt) but I try to go for decent.

But since there's no guides, I need to ask. ^^ Annoying but there you go. Anyway, I just got hands and body left to +1, then I can get back to leveling; Am working on skilling up as well.

granted I'm no mathy gear expert, but my impression is some of the perle is better than +1 at least in some ways/for some sets. I mean, it seems like gospel that 25% gear haste is really something to shoot for in terms of maxing out your DD output, and that simply isn't achevable with AF3 +1/+2 as far as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong!)

There is a reason I was wearing perle gloves till just the other day, and it wasn't because I thought they made me look elite (and the AF3 +1 hands were one of the first peices of BST AF3 I got).

I really wish there wasn't such a stigma on the abyssea gear sets because it seems to lead to people actually wearing worse gear overall in the short term (not saying this applies to the OP) - Like I can remember a member of my LS saying something to the effect that they _could_ get 25% haste with their NIN TP set if they wore some of the pink gear, but they chose looks over actual good gear choices.

I mean it is totally possible that I should have been wearing my Af3 hands in my TP set all this time rather than shooting for full haste/as close to it as possible, I'll fully admit I am no math whiz and I heavily rely on stuff I read on forums to give me an idea of what gear makes the most sense for my jobs.

Anyway... um not sure about the rant, I guess I'm just tired of the hate on for the perle and pink. Are they used by lazy players who don't care about their jobs? Sure! Are perle/pink immeasurably better than what the average scrub would have been wearing before Abyssea? Yes. You bet.

Are they the best some players have access to? Yes.

So why the huge stigma for players wearing them?

Because now a days pearle/pink (especially if you're using the full set) is often associated with a lazy/bad/gimp player, simply speaking. I know, it isn't bad bad compared with gimps before aby came into being but you can still see some terribad gimps/bad players/lazy players wearing it who obviously didn't even try to gear their jobs at all. (Bad accs, etc.)

Also speaking from the bst perspective; From what I've been reading dyn wise, the bsts that tend to be the rudest are pearle bsts. Ugh! I'm not a rude person to begin with and I don't wanna be labeled "that's a rude, bad player" from when they first see my kitty's face.

As far as the ferine set is concerned, hands/feet are WS pieces
legs/head/body good for TP
Its not hard to cap master haste w/out using feet slot though. in that case the feet are really good for tp also. Twilight belt, brego gloves and 4/5 ferine +2 makes for a solid tp set.

Also, and FYI, if you are not buffed by support players (which is almost always on bst) there are better things that Capped gear haste. (thoughthey are typically not so easy to get)
Toci's + ocelomeh are an example.

Yeah I have capped haste without feet (though because of weird amounts on things, I'm using a blitz ring - but given it replaced a keen ring, I don't see that as too catastrophic) - I don't have my +1/+2 feet yet, but plan to replace the jingjang I am using with those once I have them finished.

I use MoePapa for waist because

a) I have it, unlike twilight
b) I like the pet: haste on it

Since my pet does significantly more damage than me per hit in dyna, and does most of the work when I am soloing as well, I don't see that as too bad of a trade off.

I wish I had a Toci's... I am using Mekera set for the 8% haste atm, because, again, unlike other options, I have it. Also since I primarly do dyna on my BST, the -11% P damage taken (with jing jang feet) reduces the amount of TP I waste curing.

I'm sure other options are much better, but I finally have my gear to a place where it's not embarrasing. Also. Shiny.

I have a twilight belt, thanks for the tips guys! I'll try to get my paws on some brego gloves next. I have a agasaya's collar that I can use from THF until I can figure out a better neck. I'm also trying to brush up on my Reward set; right now it's mostly AF but I'm sure there's some newer gear I can fix that with. Maybe I should check in my shells to do some limbus and +1 that gear. :) I also got a demonry ring and a epona's ring from thf that BST is just waiting to grow into..

If you wanna know; I do plan on +2ing that af, just right now, figured get the +1 and then go from there. One step at a time. Can't expect to climb a mountain in one day. That's why I am not going any further until I +1; I can +2 a little slower.

Also Toci's is a dream for me atm. My VW luck, especially on bodies, SUCKS. Never seen one. I'm lucky to have the bits of VW gear I got (all accessories.)

Also keep it coming guys; if anyone has any suggestions for this on the attainable (Step away from VW for a bit b/c of my bad luck), feel free to say something.

Ogre gloves are cheap for the reward set. I love the ferine neck because I love stuff that enhances my pets, It drops off a caturae though, so that's annoying. Brego gloves are hot. I want an oeneros cappa for my "pet doing the work" set, but its been lower down on the spend list lately.

If you +2 monster feet they give another 10% reward potency. I'm workimg on that currently!

Ok, finished +1 bod (the next goal is to +2 the full set, that may take some time/farming pops/asking friends) and also finally writing ws macros. Got 99 bst today also. ^^ I also unlocked Ruinator (tho not going to max it until I can use it; need to make me some slugs and go skill axe) and am working on merits.

Are there any pieces that would help Ruinator/Rampage? I dragged out my cuchulian's belt from thf for that, but I'm trying to figure out what would pack the most oomph that I might have to buy. (I tend to keep things as simple as I can, tho I don't always succeed.)

Snow belt and gorget are the best pieces for ruinator as the +0.1 from both applies to all hits of the WS, unlike just the first hit of all the old ws's. I honestly can't think of anything better in neck or waist slot.

Breeze or aqua also work for ruinator, but snow is the easiest to get. Everyone has a pop for isgebind that's ever partied in uleguerand.

Dilaram's Sollerets are also a pretty good step up for ws's from ferine shoes. The critical hit rate- doesn't matter since ruinator can't crit, and 8 STR, 16 att (20 after the STR), acc+4 (DEX) are pretty much the best shoes you can use for it. And it's Pil's trash drop so it's stupidly common.

Almost everything you're shooting for is rare/ex anyway, so buying stuff isn't really important. You'll pretty much only buy brego gloves and avant+1 cuisses. Maybe an Oneiros ring if you have mp merits. I honestly can't tell whether epona's/oneiros or epona's/rajas is better, unless you're getting hit with Riddle.

Unless you're trying for hexed-1's with augments or something, but that'll end up costing more than a 99 relic weapon.

EDIT: Also Mekira-oto

after the elemental belt/gorget, you'll want to stack as much strength and attack as you can. Especially strength as you get 100% str bonus when fully upgraded.

I rarely use rampage anymore. Only in abyssea when I 'm using full crit+ atma.

Fair enough, right now I have Ruinator unlocked but don't have the skill, so rampage is all I got.

But I'd like to plan ahead; proly going to spend the day tomorrow skilling up with the help of a slug.

It's more than 10% for Monster Gaiters. The regular dynamis drop gives +20% alone

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Monster_Gaiters

If you +2 them, they give +30% HP.

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Monster_Gaiters_%2B2

For reward, I use Ogre Gloves, Monster Gaiters +2, and Ferine Earring. This combo gives +42% to reward, which I find sufficient. You can overkill it with Zoral Ja's axe, but it's not necessary IMO (although you were looking for axe suggestions, and this would be money well spent). I think reward caps at 50% anyway. MND stat gives a bonus to reward as well, so if you have the space, you can add in some items like Kirin's Osode, or twilight helm/mail to boost it.

I have Twilight Belt, Ferine pants +2, ferine hat +2 for haste (+20) which is enough. Brego gloves would be a nice bonus for the extra +4% haste, but I just use my ferine hands +2. My pet does most of the work anyway. For WS, I macro in a spiral ring, warwolf belt (both pretty cheap STR pieces) as well as Mekira-oto.

I really like the relic +2 items as well. I have gloves, feet, and pants upgraded to boost reward and shorten reward recast, plus ensure my pet is level 99. IMO, they are must have if you plan on soloing the tougher NM's (unless you like burning through food and jugs).

Actually I have a crudalis belt (str +5) that I use on THF for agil. I'll look into regetting a spiral or some str ring (I had a spiral I used on blm for a while as well as thief; long since have gotten rid of it) and working on ele gorget/belt as well as some more pet gear (I figure I need to balance (No joke intended) me kicking butt and my pet kicking butt for my melee/base set) tho I'll proly have to do some dyn and make some gil before I get my final stuff, as well as work on +2. Wish me luck :D

Also if anyone has more suggestions, I'm all ears. I also hope this will help some other bst who wants to know what to shoot for!

-PDT items are really the best things you can get for your pet. Pet haste is nice too. So start working on those trial Axes, and get started on MKD side missions to get your Anwig Salade.

For what it's worth, here's my gear (not optimized by any means, but it works well, and I feel that I'm geared above average compared to other BST's I see)

Astolfo -PDT (2) used in all sets
TP gear - Ferine +2 set, Brutal earring, Suppanonimi, Epona's ring, Rajas ring, Atheling mantle, Twilight Belt, Asagaya's Collar. (I was wrong above, this setup actually gets +23% haste- I forgot the Ferine body piece gives some haste. Since cap is 25% this is pretty decent)
WS swaps - Mekira-oto, Kirin's Osode, Spiral Ring, Warwolf Belt, Monster Trousers +2 (I think I get around +63 STR for this setup for Ruinator, which I have 5/5 merits on) If you plan to use Rampage, forget the STR gear and go for accuracy and Critical hit % gear.
Pet Buff Gear - Anwig Salade (-10PDT, +5 Pet haste), Mirke Wardecors (+10pet Att/RA, +2 crit, +2 DA), Ferine Necklace, Ferine Mantle, Moepapa Stone
Reward (mentioned above) - Monster Gaiters +2 (30%), Ogre Gloves (10%), Ferine Earring (2%)
I also have Monster Gloves +2 which I swap in when using call beast.

Be aware that with the Ferine Guasape+2 and maxed killer effect merits you get +7% damage done/ -7% damage taken against anything you can intimidate, 22/22% against anything a party member uses a killer circle against, and 30/30% against anything you can use Killer instinct on. So basically, Nothing can ever beat it unless you fight something with no corresponding killer effect present.

That's probably the most important piece to get, honestly, since it's the biggest boost most of the time. And even without a killer effect, 25 acc and att with 2 haste isn't bad.

BTW, I was lucky and got twilight helm/mail recently. Helm I know is good in the reward set; body, not sure what else, but helm and body will be good for a regen/oh shii set.

Just asking, unless I can get a toci's (not likely for a while) would twilight bod be good for ws's too? Or is there another use I haven't thought of?

Twilight mail/helm are both good WS pieces.
I use both for all magical WS.

Mekira-oto is better head for all str ws's
Toci's is a bit better than twilight for ruinator and rampage.

Phorcys is best WS body if you can get it.
