Endgame Gear questionFollow

I am currently 65 rng, and looking to finish it up in the next week or so and had a question about endgame gear. Currently my RNG is just average:

Main: Vulcan's Staff
Grip: Axe / Mythril +1
Weapon: S-Bow
Ammo: Demon / Scorpion
Head: AF
Neck: Pcc
Ear: Vision
Ear: Minuet / Drone
Body: AF
Hands: Deadeye
Ring: Scorpion +1
Ring: Scorpion +1
Back: Amemet +1
Belt: Precise / Potent
Legs: Jaridah
Feet: Bounding boots

Now what I was wondering, is I heard gun is better in end game.. so if I'm going to be a gun rng, should I invest in a hq hellfire? Is Kriegsbeil / Francisca still acceptable? Or is Vulcan's the way to go? I have O-bow for 67. I primarily sub nin, because I pull too much hate in parties as it is. Basically my question is, to be a good endgame rng.. what would my gear need to look like? I'm trying to turn this into my new main and I'm confused on what I should gear for. Any help would be appreciated.

First off, anytime you sub NIN, you should be going Krieg/Franny. Keep the Vulcan's Staff for when you are /WAR or /SAM.

Most of the gear that an end-game RNG wants is listed in the Ranger 101 Sticky. The trick is knowing when to use what. If you're making RNG your main, and want to trick that job out, I'd go for the following. This is just for gun.

Weapon: HF+1 and Culverin (for zergs only)
Head: AF+ > AF+1 > Turtle SCNM helmet. Kupo Helmet for WS.
Neck: PCC works, grab Qiqirn Neck piece as R Acc may be capped. Faith Torque when you can get it for TP. Elemental Gorgets via sea for WS.
Ears: Triumphx2
Body: Kirin's Osode
Hands: CFG/BFG TP, Seriyu's WS
Rings: Behe +1s, Rajas, Flame/Triumph. Swap STR rings in when able.
Back: AM +1
Belt: Scout's (Dynamis) or Buccaneers (Einherjar)
Legs: Dusk, Scout's/Scout's +1 (Dynamis)
Feet: Scouts/Scout's +1 (Dynamis)

I did not add Skadi gear, but there are some useful RNG pieces here. Most people don't go straight into Salvage as their first end-game activity, but if you do, try and get the relevent Skadi pieces for RNG.

The old saying "sh*t is situational" should be heeded of course. Not everything has the same EVA, so play around with your gear as needed, situation dependant. To be honest, most XXX main jobs have multiple pieces of gear for TP or WS, depending on the situation.

RNG/RNG is only good for the extra 2 levels of Accuracy Bonus though.

I don't think Axes are that gimp. See below. They compare favorably to a Fire staff and have a good amount of RACC. And as a Mithra RNG with AGI up the butt, I still don't cap RACC against anything I bring RNG out for (mostly sky gods). Anything where I do have capped RACC I generally go /SAM and use a staff.

Quote:

Weapons - 2H & DW
Kriegs/Woodville - 4.57% SW, 4.61% SS
Kriegs/Franny - 4.16% SW, 4.24% SS
Fire Staff - 4.40% SW, 4.16% SS
Vulcan's Staff - 4.91% SW, 4.63% SS

K/W is the best option due to rng acc benefit on SS, while Vulcan's wins on SW assuming you can make up the rng acc elsewhere. Otherwise, on average K/F outdamages Fire Staff slightly on SS, while Fire wins on SW. Still, if /NIN I think I'd go K/F over Fire on SW for the rng acc benefit. But Fire/Vulcan's is clearly the way to go if you are /SAM or /WAR vs. any of the individual 1H options.

dart iono how old the quote you posted is but I do notice that you have axes listed but for staff you don't have grips added to them thats an extra 3 str(sup axe grip).

Not saying that will sway things for SS but it is still a signifcant amount of str along when paired with Vulcans.

Admittedly some old data so i don't think it includes grips. But again, its always hard to say where you're going to need RACC and where you can give it up for STR. I'm just saying there are situations where RACC is needed and situations where STR is more beneficial. And personally in the situations where my RACC is capped, I'm usually not subbing NIN.

Of course some people will say hitting for 50 less on a 1k slug is playing the job gimp. I'm not one of those people.

No matter how awesome your slugwinder is if you miss half of them you still suck.

its not like there arent a ton of places we can add more racc and still be able to use a v.staff + axe grip. Here's a few options for you if you find your acc lacking:

Optical hat == +10 racc
Behemoth Ring +1 == +12 racc (instead of rajas etc)
Mirke wardecors == you could add +10 racc to it
Dusk trousers == +10 racc
Peacock Charm(ulet) == +10

You get the gist here, there is no need to actually trash your staff/grip because you need a little more racc when you could basically swap out 1 item and voila.

Ok I'm a Mithra RNG and wear an Anwig (WS ACC and RACC augments) (+25), Behemoth rings x2 (+22), Scouts Braccae (+7), Seiryus Kote (+10), PCC (+10), Mirke with RACC augment (+10) and eat Pot au Feu. With that RACC setup I can still miss slug on Byakko and Seiryu and occ Kirin. Of course I'm not sure swapping in axes would help much (esp since I go to Sky god fights as /SAM usually).

Just saying that even with max RACC you can not always obtain cap and you might want to use dual axes to increase that RACC some.

Your point is valid, the only thing i can say is, i may miss one of those slugwinders, but if its happening too bad, then yeah you may want to try dual weilding but chances are, if you missed it that go round, you most likely would have missed it with the axes.
