The Ranguemont Pass map comes from "The Resuce" quest in Selbina.

The four switches in Eldieme Necropolis are connected. Pressing any of them swaps between the N/S and the E/W facing gates being open.

Did you make sure when you went to activate the quest that you were on the job that you were getting the AF Armor for? That could be the reason.

just a couple things i thought i would throw in there.

first off, you dont need the gloves quest done to be able to get the crawlers nest coffer (for the legs). i was exping in there one night, got a coffer key off a helm beetle, and the coffer spawned next to me. i got the legs without doing the bracers quest.

secondly, the rng af2 is very easy to solo. just be careful of the azer by the tombstone (camoflauge came in handy). when you get to the pond, the leeches aggro sound, be sure to have sneak. if you have sneak on, you can stand in the middle of the pond with no worries, and scavenge will not remove your sneak.

also, as an alternative to getting coffer drops in alliances, contact a bst. i did searches of garlaige for a while, til i saw a bst around level 56. i politely asked him if i may pay him to get a key for me, since he gets them while exping anyway. he offered to just let me have it. he filled his inventory, and i waited at the zone. as soon as a coffer dropped, he invited me, and i lotted and received the coffer key. no work, very easy. i will try in monsatic cavern as well.

this bst said he gets 10+ keys per day on exping, and was glad to help. just a suggestion to those who are frustrated with building coffer alliances and parties.

edit: if you use a bst to get the key, make sure S/HE invites YOU to the party. if you invite him/her to a party, the coffer key will be lost.

I wanted to thank you for the guide. It helped a lot so far. I just finished my AF2 last night and am quite sure I am the sexiest Galka on Valefor with my sweet new hat.
It took me 14 (yes forteen) tries to find that dam old earring so just keep trying and bringing a WHM friend along wont hurt.
Also could you put the POS for the tomb stone? I forgot to make a note of it but I that it would help people so they don't go to the wrong one.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could please tell me which map the spring for AF 2 is, according to the map below:

http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/library/maps/castleoztroja.jpg

And also, do I need to be an actual ranger to do both parts of AF2? I understand that I'll need to scavenge in the 2nd part, but is it possible to do so with a RNG sub?

Thanks. :)

I'm pretty sure you have to be a RNG for all parts of every AF quest, aside from getting the keys. But opening the coffers and getting the cut-scenes and items, you have to have RNG as your main.

As for the Map, it's the small one that has the letters "G" and "H" in it, with the little green circle in the middle of the room.

You do not have to be mained Ranger to get the cutscenes from the artifact beret quest.
I got the quest as RNG 55, then went to the Mithra in the smithing guild in Mhaura as BLM 17, got the cutscene, warped, and went into Eldieme solo as 61 THF / 30 NIN. After going through the passage beyond Titan's Gate and coming upon a giant, open-aired room, the correct room with the sinner's daughter's grave was the one to the right. The Azer conned EP and did not aggro me.

The artifact gloves can rot in the Garlaige Treasure Coffer.
I just began that quest and went on to Crawlers' Nest.

http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/title.html
For all your coffer/chest maps with locations needs.

Upon entering the nest, I suggest /search-ing for a party either killing rumble crawlers or helm beetles (Lvl46-54) and asking if the coffer is there, if it has been opened and when it was opened.
If they don't have the slightest clue, drop down into the worker crawler room with the maze lizards and take the 2nd right turn you come across if you dropped to your right and continued forward, that is.

There may be trained Soldier Crawlers and (buddha forbid) Rumblers on your way to the next floor of CN, so I suggest sneaking up at this point. Wind through the claustrophobic tunnel. Soon, you'll reach the next floor of CN, and be on the southeast corner of the map. Continue far north, until you reach the drop-off of the room at positions H-8 and I-8. Without a map of CN, you can still check your position and use a printed copy of the eternalforce maps to know where you're at. Use the compass the game provides. Once in that room, take the NW tunnel and stick on your left. You'll reach yet another drop-off point. Resneak here. Drop down and check the wall under the drop-off ledge. Check the other 'cave-rooms' in the drop-off room. They are little juts that are fake 'tunnels' and inside of the dead-end is where the coffer spawns. Not there? ****, wasn't there (the first time I checked) for me either. Invis up. Take the NW tunnel and continue north past the right turn. You'll be in a Big room with Dragonfly's. They aggro to sight. Upon entering, hug the wall to your right and keenly make a trip around the wall of the room. Not there? Wasn't there for me either. Try to ask the parties killing rumblers / helms to /tell you if they spot the coffer, as at this point you do not want to walk all the way to the helms. Most likely, you either overlooked a spawn (since they are nearly all in a small cave-in of a camouflaging CN wall and they are protruded by a well-placed ledge, or the coffer was recently picked. I met 2 soloers on the floor of CN with 5 spawn locations.
After getting aggrod by a Dragonfly and instant warping, I checked the rumble/helm tunnel myself, found nothing, met a train in the tunnel leading to the next floor of CN, died, came back, Sneak-ed up for safety, and, after yet another thorough check-up of the 5 spots, found nothing. But I wanted the **** Braccae, so I constantly checked the 5 spots, and it spawned in the cave-in of center-left G-8.

<Please forgive me.> This became monstrous.

AF3 -

Perih Vashal (K-7, Windurst Woods) Semih Lafihna has set out to find the truth. Track her down and help her in any way possible.

Koh is aparrently the store of all Mithra knowlege. Perih refuses to tell Semih things, and so you chase her to Mhaura to see what Koh will tell her.
You will need to give Koh a Gold Earring, which is not cheap (50-65K). After you get more of the sinner's story, and a breif cutscene, Koh sends you to a cave near Castle Zvahl with a (key item) letter.
This cave is at F-7, on the right hand side as you approach the castle. There's a ??? there, which spawns a NM: Koenigstiger. This is the most deadly tiger I have ever seen. After brutally crushing the shadowlord with a party of 56, 58, 65, 65, 65, 65, we were forced to run for our lives from this beast. We came back a week or two later with an alliance of 12x 59-68s. This time we won, but the pld still died at the last second under the onslaught of the tiger's claws. After killing it, proceed to a similar cave directly opposite (south of) this one. Here another ??? delivers a nice cutscene and the end of a rather interesting story, I thought. Be sure to tag the ??? again for a bonus of 99 ice arrows. You'll get the hunter's socks after another conversation with Perih, back in Windurst Woods.

I did AF1 and AF2 pretty easy.
For AF2 in Eldiem Necropolis after you pass through Titan's Gate the small room with the tomb is on the right(or north) and not the left. A map will easily show this and how to get to around in Necropolis = worth the 3k purchase. I just waited at Titan's Gate until it opened which was about 5 minutes, and nothing spawns in the room waiting for door to open so no worries.
Castle Oztroja was easy with tonko:ichi (ninja invisible) and just a couple of silent oils for the scavenge (scavenge works with sneak up). During peak hours there are plenty of people running around Castle Oz opening doors and killing Yags in your way - just follow a killing party and it is even easier.
Level 50 first 2 done solo very easy. Now time for the hard ones.

I did part of AF2 the other night. I had four level 60s to help me get my Papyrus, so I thought I'd get this part out of them way. So I asked them if we could quickly do it and they agreed. ^^ The Thf took me to the wrong tombstone at first and there was one of those Azer there. So.. He and I killed it. ^^ And I cursed at it a few times. Least I could do for your wonderful guide. ^^ But yeah, we got to the right Tombstone after that then went off to kill the Lichs. Never got that drop though. ;.;

Im beginning to wonder weather or not i should even do AF3. Its nearly impossible to get an alliance together on Shiva because 90% of the server is full of selfish greedy ******** that will only do something if it benefits them in some way. not to mention I saw a friend do it one time when i was omw to kill DS for some friends.

He had him 60rng and 5 level 75's and at the end of the fight 2 level 75's were eating blood soaked snow.

Tiger was a cakewalk with this PT:

69/34 WHM/SMN (galka!)
69/34 MNK/THF
69/34 DRK/WAR
69/34 BLM/WHM
69/34 BRD/WHM
69/34 WAR/MNK (another galka)
60/30 RNG/NIN (me)

Mistral Axe >> Cross Reaper >> SA+Dragon Kick >> Sidewinder (BLM bursted two or 3 times, I might be off on the order of the first 3 WS's, but those were used) took off a good 1/2-2/3 or so the mob's HP. With demon arrow spam, the mob only did about 90-100 per hit to our WAR tank, with its occasional claw attack doing ~300 in a cone in front of the tiger.

Not difficult at all. Killed the tiger, warped back to windurst, and got my awesome boots.

First off, great job Ken on making a really nice guide. :) I haven't gotten very far into it yet, myself, but I have it bookmarked as the best looking referrence yet.

I did my AF1, and went after the AF2 last night. I only had time to get the Eldieme part done (boo, school :( ) and I wanted to clarify things a little bit. When I got down into Eldieme, I ran into some confusion, so I hope this helps.. First off, you do -not- have be on RNG as your mainjob or even your subjob to do this quest. I was a 30RDM/9WHM since it's a junk job I'll never play again and didn't mind dying on, and when I got down into Eldieme I got the cutscenes without a problem.

Now first.. There are plenty of entrances to the Necropolis, and Ken said the south one. Just to reitterate, it's the waaay south one, down south of the zone to Rolanberry and near the sea with that little island thing. Don't remember the exact coord now, but that's the one you want.

When you go in, as Ken said you can take every left and you'll get to Titan's gate. BUT, the problem I ran into was that Shiva's gate was down and in the way! I got so confused, wondering if I was in the right spot or not, that I eventually wound up getting aggro and dying--which reminds me, don't forget that the bomb mobs will all aggro to magic also. xD Now, if Shiva's gate is in your way, what you need to do is turn around, take your first left, and go north into that big open room with the Kas and the ghost mobs. On the left (W) side of that room is a gravestone and a Fazer. Ignore the stone, and beyond that is a switch (East Lever or something like that). Now, when this switch is triggered, it opens Shiva's gate but CLOSES Titan's Gate. I had my RDM friend trigger it, Shiva's Gate went up, and on my left (S) in the next room was the Titan's Gate we're looking for. There are two there, though, so make sure you take the S one.

Now, if your friend at the switch hits it again, Shiva's gate will close and Titan's will open and allow you passage to where you need to be. The Gravestone you want is on the N side of the next big open room. :3 And there you have your next cutscene. If your friend is still around, he may have to hit that switch a few times to let you back out the way you came. But, if you know what you're doing, this part of the quest is so painless it's funny. I just hope Oztroja is as easy (doing it tonight).

Thanks again for the good guide!

Terribly dissapointed i must admit after last night, died 4 times in garlaige trying to finish this god **** quest only to find i wasted a key on the chest.

YOU HAVE TO FLAG THIS QUEST!!! I decided to just go up to GC and do this, took me a bit to get the key and countless hours finding the coffer, then when we had an alliance put togethor to stand on switches and discuss where they spawn I fleed to the chest.

Popped the chest under heavy beetle aggro and got 4k gil along with everyone in my alliance and some VERY ****** off redmages. This quest HAS to be flagged, the guide makes light of this, and RKenshin i love your posts but you definately need to update this asap.

I wasted 5 hours getting a key, wasting it and a chest in front of some poor rdm who could of got their af as well if I would of just talked to Guslam, and on top of that the bracers suck and i lost 5k xp in one night

Im just speechless im so ****** lol.

Excellent guide.
I'd like to confirm that you can do these quests much easier if you have a high level job.
The Eldieme Necropolis part can be done with a different job, and you can also do the Castle Oztroja job with a different job, as long as you sub Ranger for the Scavenge ability.

In reference to tommygunnz's post... I did say in the guide that you would need to get the quest before doing the Garliage Citadel coffer. You need the original quest activated to do the AF hands from Jeuno before you open any coffers.

This guide is overall pretty good. However, I think the RNG AF2 guide is a bit misleading & somewhat incomplete. I did end up solo-ing RNG AF2 as a 53... now 52 >< RNG, but I wouldn't *really* recommend a similar lvl RNG to do the same. Why?

Oztroja:
(note: bring ~2 silent oil & lots of prism powder/tonko-ichi)

If you know Oztroja well, maybe this is a non-issue... but I went in, with a map, without knowing what doors I was looking for and it took me nearly an hour+ just to GET to the 2nd door the first time around. (After that it was about 10 minutes)

What you should know:

The first door (with a trap door) is directly east on the first map. You must go slightly north to get into the main chamber, and then make your way east.

The second door is directly west on the second map. However, even if you have a map... all paths that look like they go to the door (I-8) are actually blocked, so you must make your way SW and around and then west. Hopefully you'll see what I mean, it's similar to doing a circle starting SW then going back NW into the door.

Now, a point about the 2nd door. This is the main reason why I say a RNG ~Lv.53 should not solo this mission. The door is guarded by two EP yagudo, and as the guides correctly say you must pull a random combination of levers to open the door. This is not easy, in fact it is VERY hard to do before either of the Yagudo see you. I tried 3 times, one time I fiddled with about 4 switches, they saw me.. it was ugly. Another, the door opened on the 2nd switch, I ran inside & one turned and saw me as I had crossed the door. Uglier, there's a yagudo abbot inside. Finally, I stationed myself in front of the door, keeping invis until some random passerby opened the door. If you are going to solo this mission... I implore you to wait for the door to be opened by someone else.

Once inside, keep invis til you get to the pond. Get sneaked however, go into the pool, Scavenge, Camouflage or Tonko... doesn't matter really as long as you are watching the Yags. I got the thing on my 4th try.

That's it. The door I think is the hardest part, but should be taken seriously. Even if its one high lvl friend you take with you, I say take them.

From my experience; you do NOT need to complete or activate the Borghertz's Chasing Hands quest by talking to Guslam. I hadn't completed my DRK AF quest handed by the same guy and when I read the FAQ here, I got a bit dissapointed. Do I need to do DRK AF Hands & Legs to get my RNG AF's? NO.

All you have to do to get AF5 & AF6 is to complete AF3 (the lv60 boots). All the worried multi-jobs here, take a deep breath and relax. The RNG AF faqs around the net are false and should be updated. This guide is nice but not entirely 100% true.

Good bye. ^^

Note: I did have my DRK's AF Hands quest activated though. But what does DRK have to do with RNG? Nothing.

If you activate the quest in Jeuno for ANY job, you never have to do it again. Every person has to activate it on one job, otherwise when you open the chest you'll just get money. The jobs don't have to have anything in common, that's irrelevent, once you activate it once for one job it's active for all jobs. :P

Besides that... You're welcome Cryson, glad to help.^^

Thanks for this great guide RKenshin!

Went hunting my Davoi coffer key last night, 4 hours in both Monastic Caverns and Davoi, over 100 kills, no drops. Killed every Orcish Champion, Orcish Dragoon, Orcish Dreadnought and Orcish Farkiller in sight. We even had a 52 thf who got the kill about 60% of the time. I felt bad dragging all those people there but I hope they will be willing to go through that again. I know the theif will come back because he got 8 gold beastcoins while we were there. I'm going to owe a lot of favours after this.

Anyone have any advice or know any tricks for this key? I think we were just unlucky.

That's just bad luck =(

I'd recommend killing the Orcs in Davoi though, I'm not too sure that the ones in the Monastic Cavern will also drop them.

From my experience Monastic Cavern orcs do not drop them. Stick to Davoi.

something helpful to include in the guide may be the stuff from the following thread.

I got my hand armor by going as a different job but was unable to get the body part by going as a different job. I posted and got a bunch of really great responses to why I got a jewel instead of my body part. Anyway, if some of this info could find it's way into the faq then at least I could feel good that someone else may learn from my mistake.

Pretty much, just adding a statement that you have to go as RNG for AF5 and AF6 to the conditions part would probably do it.

Thanks

The coffer key dropping orcs in the first section of Monastic cavern (where the coffers pop) drop keys. The ones past the banishing gate for genkai 3, however, do not.

I've been here a total of 4 times now, 12 hours, 300+ kills and I still haven't even seen the key drop. I camped just past the zone near the bridge. I have a headache....

Ok, but pardon my french...

The drop rate on this key is complete ********* that's right I SAID ********* I had to have RKenshin (75RNG), Arsanos(75THF) help me get it.... if it wasn't for them... I still would have not gotten my key... I've been with Cryptos for those 300+ kills, for those 12+ hours and no key drop... It sounds lame but I even called a GM to ask if key drops were effected and his/her only response was "Drop rates were effected in the last (major)patch. Sigh... I'm really thinking the drop rates were pooched here.

Again... I still don't think the Orcs in Monastic Cavern drop the key, they're a few levels easier and they're different types of mobs. I'm pretty sure it's just the ones in Davoi, so it's best to stick with them.

I got my davoi coffer key in a funny way. We had a THF in the coffer key pt. We pass a coffer, he picks it and a mimic spawns. MIMICS ARE EVIL! We had 3 63-64 and 3 55's and it gave us a long fight. It dropped my key :p We were done before we even started!

Currently 0/50 scavenging for earring!!!!

I getting a little frustrated with this quest. I'm a level 50 RGN/NIN and I have completed the RGN AF Bow quest. I went to Windy and received quest from Perih Vashai. I went to Eldieme Necropolis, read monument, and got cut scene. I went back to back to Windy spoke with Perih Vashai again, another cut scene, then I went off to the pond in Castle Oztroja with the leeches. First time, 0/16 scavenging for earring. Second time went with 3 stacks of silent oils, 0/34 scavenging for earring. Is my luck that bad or am I missing something?

Let me recap, I am a level 50 RGN/NIN and I have completed RGN AF Bow quest and all parts of this quest except getting earring. The only other AF quest that has been started/accepted but not completed is the AF Hands quest from Guslam in Upper Jeuno.

Do I need to be level 51 or higher to get the earring (static has been on hold for holiday break)?
Do I need to have the RGN AF Bow on me to get the earring (previously the bow has been in storage since it sucks)?
Do I need to complete that the AF Hands quest before I can get the earring?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I got my key today on the second mob o.O in the Monastic Cavern. I can confirm they do indeed drop the key. I may well have been real lucky on the drop rate, but they do drop it.

I've been hearing a LOT of problems lately with scavenging the earring up in the pool. It went from it taking an average person 1 to 10 scavenges to get the item before the last update, to now taking anywhere from 10 to 50 or more scavenges.

The last update and its upgrade on Scavenge has had some effect on the ability to Scavenge up the earring from the pool, not quite sure why, but it's been giving a lot of people trouble now.

Hanging around behind the 3rd banishing gate has been a real pain. No coffer in 2 days that I have seen. I was there 14 hours yesterday. Blah.

18 hours and 3 deaths. But all done :p

Completed AF2 this weekend and i can say for sure that castle oztroja was a tedious affair indeed.

I counted 27 scavenge attempts before finally getting the old earring.

I would suggest either whm sub or a whm friend to help, or if attempted solo, buy more silent oil than you think you need, just incase.

My tactic was to be sneaked, then tonko myself and attempt to line myself dead center in the pond, after using scavenge i would camouflage and run back to the tunnel.

We found that the tunnel you enter the pond room from was not a great camp, but the exit across the pond room had no yagudo's ever in it, just the occasional one hanging around the corner, luckily tonko casts over itself.

Also i used these directions http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=2275&mid=108248389658063 for oztroja.
