As per the Attack to STR issue:
Meat Mithkabobs increase Ranged Damage outpute not as a result of the Strength Increase. It is a result of the Attack percentage increase. This is also the case using Minuet. Verbal proof of this is during an HNM once where I do about 90dmg per hit the bard used Sould voice and minuet which increased my dmg to 180.
Further evidence can be seen by equipping a STR4 RSE belt found in BCNM. I equipped it and notice an insignificant difference in my dmg output. The result is likely apparent in the interview that STR2 = 1 attack and since a meat mithkabob = 20% attack it is by far the reason you are doing more DMG.
As for skill chains I put some here that I have seen but in no way is a comlete list.
Ranger Skill chains
Note that more often than not it is best for Rng to start the skill chain for a couple of reasons:
A. Ranger to Thief skillchains are very powerful and Range can steal hate for a second so Thief can trick onto Tank. Not many other melee can do that without Provoke.
B. The additional DMG as a result of the Chain adds to the hate built up. So a RNG may be creating more hate than necessary.
Note: Depending on PT make up it may be beneficial for the RNG to use WS solo. If there are two other melee they can do a skill chain. Sometimes including the Ninja as 2nd person in a skill chain will help them keep hate. Often a RNG WS can finish off the mob and reduce the duration the mob's attention is on you. However, that said, RNG skillchains are very fun to see so try to work it out with your party before hand.
The information below is set up as most optimal Level 2 chains I have seen. The DMG of the chain is a result of the 2nd ws used and penalty is awarded if a lower lvl WS is used as the 1st ws. This is very difficult to explain and better seen as a result of many WS. For example, a sidewinder (600) to sidewinder (600) combo, Reverberation will result causing about 300 dmg I have found. However, when something else is used to cause Reverberation on the same mob the result may be 150 dmg. As a general rule, the DMG output is based on 2nd ws more than the 1st. Thus, Skillchains where RNG ends with Sidewinder are much fun to watch, and hence the benefit of doing chains with a thief.
Pre-Sidewinder (only considered Flame and Piercing)
With Monk: Fusion (Fire/Light). Flaming Arrow - Combo. Great for GOBs.
With DRK: Distortion (Ice/Water). Piercing Arrow - Slice/Nightmare or Spinning Scythe. Good for beetles.
With Thief: Distortion (Ice/Water). Piercing Arrow - Viper Bite. This is the highest dmg skill chain that will likely result until post-Sidewinder.
Post-Sidewinder (this has high miss rate so you may find you will need to figure out how much tp is good for you to go. 150 was a pretty good number for me.)
I'm only listing two jobs as I lvled all my time with a Thief or Drk.
Thief works very well. The skillchain should be:
Sidewinder > Viper Bite/Dancing Edge = Distortion (Ice/Water)
Your ws will almost always turn the mob and giving the thief a chance to sneak and trick.
Dark Knight work fairly well too. The skillchain should be:
Sidewinder > Guillotine = Fragmentation (Wind/Lightning)
This is a good change from many levels of distortions and post-60 when the DRK actually has this ws plus Sneak Attack and Trick Attack using Thief sub this produces high dmg output.
Conclusion: It all comes down to what weapon the other person is using. Also, depending on how many melee you have you may want to solo your ws. It was often the case that I build up TP fastest, even more than SAMs.
