New Ranger looking for a little insightFollow

Ok first of all I'm a brand new Elvaan Ranger. I realise that Elvaan isn't the ideal race for Ranger, but I was already well on my way before I knew this. Anyway, I'm looking for advice in general about leveling up a Ranger, but I have a few specific questions first.

1. I plan on using Ninja as a sub; would this be better than say War, Thf or Sam? I'm mainly looking for the dual wield (double Archer's daggers) and Utsusemi for a little more survivability, and the added agility can't hurt.

2. What is the best equipment up until around level 30 or so? I've got a little money, so I use +1 bows, but as an Elvaan I realize I need +rng accuracy and +agility stuff to help make up for a lack of accuracy, so what is the best?

3. How is Elvaan accuracy from 1-20, 20-40, and 40-60? At each of these stages, how do Elvaan compare to the others, like Mithra and Humes? Do Elvaan really miss a whole lot more? Are they really even viable in parties agianst VT/IT mobs?

Any help or advice from you more experienced rangers (especially Elvaans) is greatly appreciated.

I too am an Elvaan ranger. I seem to have no problem hitting any IT's (only if I use sharpshot). If I do not use sharpshot, forget about it, I will go 1/5. I am lvl 18 and I am using a beestinger (for the +1 agi) a royal footmans headband (again for the +1 agi), 2 Bone Rigs +1 (for a total of +6 rng acc), a hunters longbow (soon to be a power bow +1 as soon as i find one for sale), and obviously the rangers necklace. Like I said I am only lvl 18 so i dont have the expierience of some of the other guys on the forum, but so far I do not find the job too hard as an elvaan.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention, I looked at a stat calculator somewhere online (I wish i remembered the URL). A RNG/NIN at lvl 50 only has 2 less strength than a RNG/WAR at 50. On the flip side of the coin, A RNG/NIN at lvl 50 only has 2 more agi than a RNG/WAR at 50. Being an Elvaan though, you should sub NIN for the dual wield archers daggers IMO, but you should do whatever you think you will have the most fun doing.

Imo, there are no best race for ranger. I am a lvl 34 hume, but if I can restart, I would pick either Galka or Elvean. pre lvl 28 is a struggle, but just hang in there. Once you have dual weild archer's knives, you'll be happy that you used Elvean because they deal more damage than mithra. It's a major misconception that accuracy is more important than damage. You actually get the most out of your ranger if you chose damage because rng/nin gets tons of acc bonus, but hardly no damage bonuses. The only reason why you would want a bit more acc than dam is for tp. That is the only reason. So, you would want a slight lean on agility or accuracy which you get from elvean rng post lvl 28. If you add up all the damage and misses compared to other races, you would actually win in the later levels.

Try use beetle rings +1, martial slacks, nomad mantle +1, leaping boots, emperors hairpin. Those are what I use, except for the hairpin, but will get one soon.

After you get to lvl 28, your acc will change dramatically. I would say no big worries after dual weild. At lvl 35, you get drone earings, and horn rings. You can also take a look at RSE stuff.

There also arrows that gives +5 acc, 10, and 30 acc at high levels. Accuracy isn't a problem at later levels.

Don't be afraid that you missed! You hit more and harder than drk. And if you add up that damage, you should actually do more damage than a mithra that hits more often but less damage at high levels.

Accuracy >>>>>> Damage

Do you know what the attribute of the WS Sidewinder is?

4X Damage, LOW HIT RATE

Your stats do not matter if your Sidewinder misses. A RNG can never have enough Accuracy.

Well I will side with a little extra damage on this one. At lower levels a RNG misses big time. Until you reach lvl 28-30 my advice would be get the best gear you can, but get things that most lower lvl people dont use like food. Meat Kabobs give great STR AGI and haste pluses that can make up for any race difference. I can't speak past lvl 32 but here is my armor and damage right now. (I will assume bow even though you should have gun as well)

Glaka 32 RNG/16 NIN
Great Bow +1
Archer Dagger (2)
Full Centurion's gear
Spike Necklace
Mercenary Captains Belt
Wolf Mantle +1
Mythril Earring (2)
Beetle ring +1 (2)
Meat Kabob

A normal silver arrow shot on an IT will go 70%-80% at about 80+ damage wihtout sharpshot. TP will hit for 125+. Barrage will hit random up to 350. I have been told I have abetter hit rate then other RNGs they have been in a party with, but the ones I talk to with near to same gear get about the same outcome. Then again I have seen guys with 1/2 this stuff miss big and hit small. They not kidding when they say save gil. This gear will cost about 175k - 200K and NIN tools are pricey too. Last but not least train your marksmenship along with bow, bullets put out big time damage

I'm at 52 and have been partying with an Elvaan Ranger friend of mine a lot. I don't keep a tally of how many misses we get, but it seems that we hit about the same. If there's any difference, it's not noticable, but he generally hits for a few more points of damage because of his higher str. I know a level 75 Elvaan Ranger as well, and he stuck with war and sam subs for the high levels. Ninja definitely isn't necessary.

Umm... why are you wearing a Spike Necklace instead of the Ranger Necklace that you got for free with the job?

STR+3 = RATK+1.5 / DEX+3 = useless to RNG

vs

RATK+5 / RACC+5

This is a total non-decision.

Nin may be about the same stats wise as WAR for subjob, but you are forgetting about why WAR is best for RNG, Beserk. 25% dmg boost that nin does not have, nuff said.
