Right now, mostly due to the fact I haven't gone out to get anything better for tanking and I usually don't come PLD often, I'm using RR and usually Minikin for the defenserefresh. I've also used Atma of the Sellsword for the MDB. The STR doesn't hurt too much, either.

I'm thinking I might try Cloak and Dagger some time - might offset our lack - but, really, I think a refresh one to help with cure bombing and a DD one so we're kicking out damage are going to do the most good. DD's are going to pull hate on us anyway - why not toss around the cures and do some damage if we're there on PLD?

Edit: Defense? What was I smoking last night.....

Ebon Hoof: 30%hp boost and a powerful resist sleep, Im a hume pld and I'm pushing 3k hp with it.
Minikin: 10mp per tick fresh, does have a small -emnity to it though

can also use ambition from asa for a 5mp per tick and a small fast cast bump.

I use Sanguine Scythe (HP+: Major (20%) Critical Hit Damage+: Major Enmity+: Minor )
and Atma of Ambition (Refresh: Minor (5MP tick) Fast Cast +: Minor (10%) Movement Speed Major (12.5%))

Depends on what it is. Basically comes to the normal "It's situational" answer.

If it is something that can hit more for > 2.5K damage in one round?

Sanguine Scythe + Ebon Hoof

Otherwise I start with Voracious Violet + Razed Ruins and adjust as needed.

For example:

  • Stronghold if I know I need 15 HP/Tick,
  • Harvester, Ebon Hoof, and some gear if I want to be immure to sleep pretty much
  • Stormbird and/or Minikin Monstrosity if I want lots of MP
  • Would-Be King and/or Voracious Violet if I am doing atma procing and need TP and not engaging mob while tanking.
  • Demonic Lash if I'll be eating a crap ton of magic to the face

The best answer is get all you can, know what they do and figure out what works best for the situation.

Very nice suggestions thank you. Situational i would have guessed lol. Should have specified.

anyone have tests with MM and Sanguine blade? 50 Int gotta be a decent boost. and 10 refresh is nice for cure bombing, since well probably just be back uphealingafter a short while anyway. gogo 3k-6k ws dd... /stare >.> Raized runes.

Do you think with all the - PDT they will add some atma for those? I saw a couple that have " Nullify" magic and Physical. What are the potential in those, and will they give us a supeiror emnity boost? Heros of Abyssea shall determine it i suppose.

RR/VV but I havent been on pld since Scars came out, outside of keeping it leveled......Im sure the way SE has spoiled it with updates in the past that SE will figure out a way to perserve atleast a few mobs for pld to be needed or atleast guaranteed not a wasted spot. I could be wrong though...

I would say Paladin is still pretty awesome for low manning stuff. Once you throw a whole alliance at something, it becomes less and less relevant who's getting beat up.

I still prefer monk, monks always been the better tank vs pld. The only thing that limited its tanking abilities back then was damage penalty it got vs HNMs. Now that that isnt an issue anymore ppl who havent seen a monk tank before can see what it can do.

I haven't had a chance to try it personally but I was thinking Mounted Champion would be good for straight tanking (VIT: superior, 20hp/tic regen, minor enmity decrease when taking damage), anyone have experience with this one?

I'm a big fan of using:

- Minikin (Intelligence+: Superior (+50) Refresh+: Major (10/tick) Enmity-: Minor)
- Sanguine Scythe (HP+: Major (20%) Critical Hit Damage+: Major Enmity+: Minor)
- Mounted Champion (VIT+:Superior(+50) Regen:Superior(20/tick) Enmity decrease when taking damage:Minor)

Sanguine and Minikin cancel each other out with Enmity, so you can enjoy refresh and regen without worrying about anything. And ofcourse the HP and VIT are nice bonuses.

Atma of Vicissitude is a nice choice too.

Defense+:Major, "Magic Def. Bonus":Minor, "Regen":Major

Sexy time right there.

Now if only we were needed on anything. Its still fun to play, but I'm not on it except for keeping campaign medals one day a month or by special request.

Razed Ruins
Mounted Champion
Voracious Violet or Sanguine Scythe

Given how much MP you can get with Lucid Ethers/Elixers you should not be using a Refresh Atma.
Using that Atma setup i can tank Sobek, Ironclad, and pretty much any Abyssea NM while /WAR.

I've recently changed over from my previous setup to

Atma of the Impregnable Tower
Atma of the Sanguine Scythe
Atma of the Mounted Champion

It's spectacular what kind of things you can tank riding 4500 HP backed up by a sh*tload of VIT. It may be old school, but you can pretty much neglect the occurance of ever losing your tank to a TP move (save Death).

I'm loving it.
