WAR is the original DD job and no matter what SE does it'll always be strong. Back when DW got such a large bonus, WAR/NIN with multihit weapons. After 2H update and RR update, WAR/SAM using 2H GAXE. Inside abyssea with the crit atma's and big numbers, WAR with crit weapon skills. Outside Abyssea back when we did sky NM's and such, store TP to 300 and do Steel Cyclone. WAR tank in a fashion, deal amazing damage and has tons of JA / JT. It's also an extremely versatile DD job that can equip nearly every class of weapon, just in-case a situation arises that requires it.
Other jobs tend to specialize, DRG / DRK / SAM / RNG / MNK / NIN each specialize in one weapon / style, where as WAR can use multiple styles. Although the current favorite is "smash your face into the monsters fist until it dies". In short, if you decide to play WAR, you'll have a ton of fun smashing things.
