Q: Are there any plans to provide a means to upgrade equipment from Salvage, Einherjar, Nyzul, and so forth? I put a great deal of effort into obtaining these items, but these days they feel underpowered.

A: Yes. Future updates will introduce not only a host of new items, but also new upgrade possibilities for existing weapons and armor. Methods including but not limited to Trial of the Magians are in the works, and we think you'll enjoy what we have in store.

Wild speculation go?!

I think it will be Magian trials for all the armour sets - where you can choose an elemental path
for the extra stats to put on your gear. I hope they do not make it a FOV style augment where
you randomly get junk stats added to your gear. Imagine if they made you do a FOV style
augment on a Morrigan robe and you got back negative stats >.<

As for the stats and trials, they will probably make us go back where we got the armour and kill
bosses in those zone 50 million times for a marginal increase. I doubt they are going to allow the
old gear to be better than the best gear from Abyssea, unless they plan on AF3+3 upgrades or allowing you
to augment your Twilight gear etc too...

I hope that the trial to upgrade your Salvage gear would involve killing the NM that drops that piece of salvage gear to begin with. Give those who have a reason to associate with those who have not.
There are two kinds of people in FFXI, those doing the laughing and those who don't know what's funny.

probably this. but now speculation.

it would be cool, i think, if they had us use af3 papers to upgrade with job-related stats. an example might be using x blm seals to upgrade morrigans in a blm specific manner, while x rdm seals would upgrade it in a more rdm-ey flavor. half and half might yield another combo, and yet more possibilities for blu-centered versions or a 3 way mix.

before you cry about this wildly speculative suggestion, it would at least allow for these to 'surpass' af3s in some specific ways without making af3s totally invalid. of course you could totally ruin your morrigans this way without some sort of trial reversal, but they are getting easier to replace... and you could always have the item name change upon completion, so that you could have one for each job.

and the time sink involved in that, along with bringing people back to salvage for the 100 minutes of pain?

well, that's some classic square enix right there. there's a content executive reading this and fapping furiously at the thought.

What? I've done some Salvage runs in the last week or so and it's been heaps of fun. You don't need as many people now so it's way easier to cap on cells, everything is squishy at 90 so you can plow through it, and you no longer need an "optimal" setup, let alone 6 people.
I tell you, we are here on Earth to **** around, and don’t let anybody tell you different.

Yeah, Salvage has been tons of fun recently. We managed Hammerblow, GG, Dekka, Don Poroggo, Citadel Chelonian and the Boss in SSR last night and finished with 20mins to spare... Dekka put out and we finished up a couple of pieces, including my Morrigan's Robe :)

It's a lot of fun right now and really makes a change from Abyssea.
