Are herald's gaiters worth the gil?Follow

I'm still trying to learn more about this interesting piece of equipment, and have read some about it on Kanican's Journal and some other sources. I dont have the gil or the level to actually use them, but was wondering from people who are experts, are they actually worth getting? From what I understand (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the reason they are so good is because you can keep running and blink kite magic. My other question would be, since you should be able to solo certain mobs that normally can't be, which ones are actually worth doing it to? I know you can do long-bowed chariot and kaiser behemoth, but my ls said there is no reason why you would have to solo them. Just looking for some feedback. Thanks!

That's like asking the sun not to rise. He can only post if he's going to be a prick or a little bit useful + a prick. That's just who he is.

fine, to answer your question, no they're not worth buying. the obvious reason for that is because you can't wear them.

I don't actually have a pair of my own. But when my hunny lets me borrow his, it's pretty nice. Though I've not used them for any HNM. Mostly just town gear. I don't doubt that I've survived things I probably shouldn't have because of them, though.

They're nice to have. But more of a luxury item, even if you can wear them. Nothing wrong with thinking ahead. There's probably gear you should focus on before getting those, though. Like HQ staves. Sorc ring, saving up to buy cursed item for the sorc ring. Novio earring. Maybe even a Genie Weskit would be more practical and of use than heralds..?

A place I can think of that they would probably be of most use is Sea/Limbus. Soloing for you obis. Maybe duoing Ix'drk. And sky. Though it's very possible to solo stuff up there even without movement +. But, having some would make things go much smoother.

Gaiters are one of those last buy items for completions sake. There aren't very many things where you would need Gaiters for, they are nice to have, but never really needed.

i guess nobody should ever buy haubergeons haguns life belts and all that stuff if they are 1 level away from using them right?

that princess is a douche.

someones asks a legitimate question - they want a legitimate answer. Princess strikes me as the kinda person that dings into a level where they SHOULD have the gear on them so they can equip i right away - 72 for a hagun, 59 for haubergeon, 61 for amemet mantle - but they gimp themselves in the exp pt and just keep exping till the PT breaks, then and only then do they start FARMING to be able to buy the pieces - but they still take invites in the mean time and gimp it.

douch. stop.

Gaiters will open some options to you when in solo play. They arnt essential but they are quite useful under the right situations. A little movement speed never hurt anyone :)

If it turns out that you are a person that enjoys to solo then yes, they're worth it. If you turn out to be a person that only does stuff in a group then the return on investment will be much lower.

As a number of people have pointed out so far, Herald's are 'prolly the last thing you need to worry about gear wise, but again, it will end up depending on what you want to do with blm.

They're worth the gil if you already have much of everything else for a BLM and you want to run 12% faster for whatever reason. Whether you want to solo better, or simply want to get around quicker. (Running without gaiters feels like running in slow motion -.- )

If your gear is still lacking in some areas like Enfeebling, +HMP, magic attack bonus, etc. whatever.... then spend your gil on bettering your gear sets before you think about gaiters.

Gaiters open up options no other piece of gear can making them well worth the cost assuming that you have all you normal gear first and are just shooting for the big ticket items like novio or gaiters.

actually, i've dinged into genie weskit, sorc ring, etc, and always buy things i've about to level into, but nice guess. there's actually a difference here though. as everyone else has kindly pointed out, gaiters are not a necessary item, and should be one of the last things anyone even considers buying. if he doesn't already have L75, then it's highly unlikely that he already has all the other more important gear, so he should buy that first. there is no level where you should have them.

It's more than a bit suspicious when someone is willing to throw around 10m+ from just asking a single question to a forum without doing their own research. Guessing you didn't earn that gil.

If Herald's Gaiters weren't worth the gil, then everyone would sell them... FFXI has a free market economy that adjusts its prices depending on what people are willing to pay for items.
#19Princess ThePsychoticOne, Posted: Jun 01 2009 at 11:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Except availability, and difficulty to obtain affects prices as well as how good/useful they are. Not to mention 99% of linkshells don't let their members sell them.

Thegodhand,

If you are a player that spends the majority of your time soloing/lowmannin or want to be the type of player that spend the majority of their time soloing/lowmannin kited fights, then yes, these are more than worth the gil.
There are some fights where the gaiters aren't needed but make things easier, and there are fights where if you didn't have gaiters you'd surely not be able to do the fight, either way, you'll love them for the vast difference they make in your everyday gameplay.

As for me personally, I got most of my HQ gear on blm and sch before trying to buy heralds gaiters. If i had the choice, I would definitely get them again. However, if i had the choice and could choose when to get them, I wouldn't have waited till i had everything else for blm. I would only wait as long as it took me to get an HQ staff set of the ones that matter, and the rest of nq gear that would be substantial. After that I would sink the rest of my gil into getting heralds, then use the benefit heralds provided me to make money faster, and finish buying the rest of the blm gear I needed. My personal opinion and reasoning for this, is that with gaiters, i know i could make the money back much faster to get the rest of the blm gear and do it a lot easier. What would probably take me 3-4 months to accomplish, i prolly would have accomplished in 2-3 months if i had the gaiters to support the ways i made gil.

I hope you meet your goal of getting them, and I also hope that you get as much use of them as some of the rest of us do. They're quite an incredible toy. GL ^,^

He said he doesn't have the gil and has read about it on several other places, I am just assuming he decided to do even more research and maybe get some specific questions answered on his own?

If you have the money to buy them, they are worth it. Id be worth buying them just to go from my MH to the AH. Yes moment speed is that good. ; ;

I have movement speed on all my jobs, except sam(we get all the love except there </3 SE). And trust me, just getting from place to place seems like my world has slowed down x2. Movement speed has become my crack (._. )

humor aside, that money is best spent on your blm overall. However if you came across a pair being sold and had the gil to do so, id probably, if I was in that situation, get them. You dont see them for sale very often imo. If I farmed up that gil before, chances are I can do it again, and faster this time o.o

should be on average 5-10 new pair per server popping up in the middle of this month if everyone chooses them for mog prize that wins (which they should). Maybe half of those will be sold. I'm hoping to snatch a pair up if I see them. If not, I guess I'll have to transfer a mule. Like I said, I haven't seen any for a year on siren.

I'll probably be getting a RDM hat if I win rank 2, because I'm never going to be able to get one any other way.

Velocious Belt is tempting too, but with Morrigan's Robe on the way for me... RDM hat wins out.

Herald's would be worth it to me simply because, as has already been said, it's the only way to get Movement+ gear for BLM. It already takes long enough walking from A to B, every little bit helps....

Regarding the lottery, I would have to go with Morrigan's, simply because it's too good to pass up. Seeing as how I'll probably never do Salvage enough to even consider putting the pieces together, this is pretty much my only shot.

I think movement speed is always worth it, as it saves a lot of time in the end. However, if you are spending 2.5 months farming all that gil, you are wasting a lot of time, so........... If you have nothing else to spend your money on (and you have lot of money), go for it.
