OK, so where are my unique abilities?Follow

I'm looking at the spell lists and it makes sense to me that between Black and White mages things would be pretty even just with different spells. One thing is that White Mages can hold shields but black mages can't. Not that big of deal though.

However, looking at the spell lists, by level 25 white mages have things like INVISIBILITY and RAISE.

Looking at the Black Mage list? DOTs and some Nukes, which are equal counterparts to the White Mages healing and regen\dia type spells. However it seems we get screwed in the area of special unique abilites. Our one interesting spells, Drain is only level 12, yet its some hard quest, and its only available in one location.

Looking further down the list its just more Nukes and DOTs. We get a spell to teleport to our home point. Big deal its like death without the exp loss, maybe save a little time. Some useless spell for teleporting corpses. THATS IT. Wheres cool stuff like setting our own bind points or something? If the White Mage can do something like BRING PEOPLE BACK TO LIFE, why is our library of spells limited to all DOTs and Nukes?

I realise the main point of each is White heals damage and Black deals it, but if White Mages have unique abilities like Raise and Regen, and even are given out to Paladins and Red Mages as well, why does the Black Mage get nothing unique?

Sorry for the double post, it gave me a "page not found" error when I tried the first time.

Sleep, Sleep 2, Sleepga = Crowd Control, less monsters fighting you the better.

Aspir = Mana drain = Caster monsters cant cast as much.

Tractor = Corpse Recovery to revive someone in a safer place.

Home Jump II = Teleport everyone home = Saves alot of time.

Bind = bad guys can't move.

Debuff spells = allot of our damage spells also reduce monsters effectiveness.

You see we arent meant to do much else other then blow things up, but we still can do other usefull things.

Tractor might be usefull from time to time and I can see the point about Home Jump II, but to me Home Jump is a bit halfassed when we can't even set our own home points. It might be a quick way to get back to town or a safe area, but if we could set our own home points, then at least we could use Home Jump for strategic things.

Life is not fair so what makes you think a video game will be? :)

Get used to being shafted, no matter what class you play, what forums you go to, or who you ask, someone always has something to complain about. Even the people who play the most overpowered strongest classes ***** about something.

who told you we can't hold shields???

Of course we can, we just don't get SKILLS for using it, for exemple block or other shield thing.. but we get the bonus of ac, status and the cool look.. hehe

Why this much hate, just Sub class a white mage and you'll get all thoses skill!

^^^ What he said!

Look at the abils you get if you combo these:

Group Warps (don't discount the usefullness of warp)
Damage shields like Blaze spikes
Debuffs against mobs
Buffs for party

BLM with a WHM sub may be the most powerful combo (in terms of grouping) in the game.

I'm sick of black mages whining about this stuff. This is a final fantasy game, not dungeons and dragons. Do you EVER remember in ANY FF game where a black mage could cast a spell to make the party invisible? How about to see long distances? Create illusions? NO, NO, and NO! Why should this game be any different? Feel lucky you have anything besides nukes anyway!! RED MAGES are the ones who should complain. They're treated like dirt until level 30 when the power leveling groups mostly disappear. Otherwise they're lucky to find a party, and then it's only because no white mage was available and they're stuck on healing only duty. They're actualy yelled at for using something besides a heal and maybe 1 debilitating spell.

I've played a black mage, so don't go thinking I'm just a guy who hates them. I respect this job.

hey anon i play a red mage and i must say, PEOPLE LOVE ME, i get invited to groups all over the place and have been told by many that if i hadn't been in the group they would have left hours before. If you truely think that red mages are bad in groups and truely think that we actually suck, guess what try playing one some time

Red mages are a great class and imo the true Wizard of this game. They get to have nukes, debuffs, heals, raise, aswell as some protection spells so theyre not the glass clannons that the BLMs are.

I can't really say much about the BLM plight, since I've only gotten to level 7 in my free time. I play primarily as a level 17 (almost 18) WHM. It isn't exactly as easy as you think. I have to rely on good warriors to keep things off of me. Does the BLM 2 hour skill mean death for you? It does for the WHM, if the entire party is in dire need of healing *NOW* (provoke has little chance of negating this). I would much rather have manafont than benediction, since I can't count the number of times when I've used my 2 hour to save my party at the cost of myself.

It's my understanding that invisibility isn't as good as you think it is. There are 3 different ways for aggressive monsters to detect you: smell (deoderize), sound (sneak), and sight (invisiblity). Invisibility won't help much around goblins, since they detect players by smell. By level 20, you should have a chocobo license anyway.

As for red mages, I'm more than happy to have one in my party. It eases the need for my debuff spells, and in an emergency, they can help with cures if I can't keep up.

"I'm sick of black mages whining about this stuff."

I have to agree with that statement. If you don't like black, change job. The creators of the game distribute all the jobs skills very well. If you can't tell by now, you haven't play the game long enough.

theres another way for mobs to detect and attack you, some mobs attack magic, they see you casting and your *** is grass (its hard for us casters to make it to lvl 20 without getting munched by at least one elemental)
