I'm lvl 41 now, and was nuking in my last pt (capped at 39), and the damage (eyeball'ing it, I don't have a parser) on my water and stone 2's (aero 2 did less damage than these two) were rather random (either < 10, around 40's, or 75+). Including my food (sweet rice cakes), my int was +20, and we were fighting colibri.
Is there a way for me to either make my damage more consistent, or increase the damage max?

on a side note: I noticed something: I'm a lot more mp efficient in healing mode rather than nuking mode.

They ain't got nothin' on us Blue Mages. We kill monsters, eat their souls, and we don't even use barbecue sauce. And we're still hungry.

We're bastards.

Indeed they are; unfortenately you'll be hardpressed to get anything remotely consistant in terms of magic damage on colibri.

There are some enemies that just aren't worth nuking.
Colibris are one of those types.

Yup.

First, stop eyeballing. Eyeballing does nothing to help you paint a good picture of effectiveness.

Second, be sure to target mobs that are closer in your level range, and (as mentioned in this thread) aren't resistant to magical damage. The good news is the Colibri in E. Ronfaure [S] are level 45-47, the bad news is they suck to nuke.

Third, use mob-appropriate nukes if possible, or, use the same nukes over and over. Different nukes have different base damages, which will yield different results during resists.

Last, accept that you will not have as much control over your effectiveness at level 41 than you will at level 75.

As many have said Colibri are a bad idea to test nuke damage on in general not just at 39.

Its been a while but I'm pretty sure I ran more than +20 INT in gear at 40 for SCH. Since you're a hume it works nicely so my build could be similar to yours, rough idea of what I had back then. Now I know some of that is kind of pricey if this is your first job and you don't like farming/fishing/other gil making things but other than the rings being +1 I think the rest of that gear is reasonably affordable compared to what other jobs spend on should have gear at 40. In gear alone that nets you +27 or +25 if you NQ the rings.

Also another suggestion if you know you'll be be nuking try and get Cream Puffs.

And the last 2 things to really note, damage will become more consistent at 51 with elemental staves and even more so at 58 once you have the gown on.
