'Blink casting' on the PS2Follow

So I do this on accident every once in awhile, and my macros are written up like Kaeko's specified on his LJ, but recently (I have FiOS, and PS2, as said in the title), my JAs are all animated.

I would like to be able to regularly hit Parsimonys, Accessions, etc without stopping for animation.

Is there anyone who reliably blink casts on the PS2? How do you do it? Am I just boned because my connection speed is too fast? I can't imagine how that's the case. How do you do it?

I blink cast on PC using regular ol' SE-approved macros. Transferring it to the PS2 is just a matter of adjusting your /wait times to account for the extra lag that is (almost always) associated with the PS2.

About the only thing that holds me back is using the controller to move left to right across a palette quickly.

*edit*

for instance, my Accession/Manifestation macro looks like this (keep in mind I have one Macro set for all of my strategems):

/equip Body "Errant Hpl."
/equip Body "Argute Gown"
/ja "Manifestation" <me>
/ja "Accession" <me>
/equip Body "Errant Hpl."
/equip Body "Argute Gown"

6 lines, and enough swapping to override the animation.

Spells aren't much more difficult, you just factor in a /wait into it:

/ma "Stone IV" <stnpc>
/wait X
/equip Armor A
/equip Armor B
/equip Armor C
/equip Armor D

Ideally you want as many gear swaps in there as possible to prolong the "blink". But again, your individual lag will determine how long you have to /wait.

If you have the book space, it helps to set up low- and high-lag macro sets, to account for when you're lowmanning or when you're in Besiged.

ARGH I CANNOT FREAKIN' GET THESE TO WORK.

I changed to what you have, Acturus, and I'm still blinking.

What the hell? I've tried having the /JAs at the beginning of the macro, at the end, in the middle, with 4 pieces of gear swapping --- 2, 1 --- nothing.

Doesn't anyone on PS2 blinkcast?

Priphea:

I've talked to many PS2 users trying to help them blink out their JAs like a computer based FFXI player can. Though I've never actually used a PS2 for this game before, I've reached the conclusion that the blink animation simply occurs too fast on the PS2 for whatever reason. You can do it, but it is not reliable nor near 100% like on a comp.

The only way I've found to increase the time of the animation is by 'lagging' my computer. I used this trick/exploit/whatever on certain solos in order to get a very long blink casting duration so that it would blink out fast spells like Poison II (allowing you to cast on the run). While this has many drawbacks (for one, you need a pretty sh*tty computer to lag yourself to this point by opening just firefox in the background), the extra lag can be very beneficial in controlled situations. You can't do this, to my knowledge, on a PS2. /sadface

If there were ever a reason to move to computer from PS2 I think playing SCH would be it. Even without using 'illegal tools' being able to simply blink cast will help you tremendously on a job that uses a JA once a minute. If you care about solo ability, not being able to do this will absolutely kill you. If you don't, it'll just be very annoying, but workable I guess.

Good Luck!

Kaeko nailed it, I actually play 360 and I can blink animations just fine, I backed my macros up to the server and not having access to my machine had occasion to play on a PS2. After pulling my macros down and experimenting a little bit with it, I agree that it's definitely very hit and miss.

I actually used blinking spell animations to pull with threnodies on brd before I could cast elegy and it's very similar. Sometimes the /wait in the macro would work, other times it wouldn't. I will say that while I could get that trick to work around 75% of the time, I couldn't really force any level of consistency with blinking JA's.

Also, if I recall accurately, you'd be wasting your time trying to blink dnc JA's period, SE tweaked those so that it can't really be done, a preventive measure against people being able to effectively cure without stopping. Though Kaeko's method of slowing graphical processing might work for that too, for PC players.
