Hey guys, I always loved soloing things as much as possible. So I thought it would be cool if we all put together a list of the NMs or interesting things we can solo successfully.

I'll start with one we mostly know about from another thread :

Aquarius
An easy solo with /nin, Fan Dance, EVA build, and stun for shadows.
More discussion here :
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=19;mid=1236801715142998512;num=31;page=1

Those ball and flower things in sea.
Warning: This one can be very dangerous and challenging at times.
I go /war, pop defender and fan dance, EVA build.
Tried on /NIN before but got pwnt before having Fan Dance.
Sometimes gets dangerous but i never died last night.
Have stun ready for the casting mobs since you will lack shadows.
Those flower mobs mean business, don't be too long under 50% HP or it might 1shot you. Because of this precaution my TP usage was less than efficient. Be on top of your steps cuz you'll need every bit of TP.
Reraise definitely recommended.

Campaign Mobs (Great practice)
Starting at lvl 70 you can solo normal campaign mobs.
Again i prefered /WAR with defender for more curing exp.
It'll take a looong time to kill one mob, I suggest soloing it to 50% then dragging it to others players looking for a target, switch to DD mode once you lost hate. Change tags, repeat. The Yag mobs are a little risky because they can blow your weapon off, that's the only times i got killed.

I threw myself at every normal campaign mob i could find, MNK, BLM, NIN, PLD, WHM etc. NIN was by far the most annoying because of sticky paralyze and constant debuff spam making it hard to erase in one shot.

Keep stun in your back pocket for the dangerous casting mobs.

Steelshells in B.Tree (Great practice)
This was great fun, I think around 73 i started soloing these for dagger, EVA, Parry skillups, and boy did i get skillups. Good fun and great practice for later challenges.

Again i went /WAR for defender (crabs last longer, cure less often).

That's all i have for now but i'll be sure to keep posting.

Please make sure you put mob names in yellow and maybe bold too for easily scanning the list!

Ul'phuabo - Excellent means of increasing your evasion skill, if it's not capped. They attack slowly enough that soloing them isn't ever really a problem. I usually turn away or disengage if shock spikes is up, since they do a lot of damage. Pretty much all of the lower tier sea mobs can be solo'd I'm sure. Going to try doing an Ul'Yovra eventually.

Baronial Bat - Well, I didn't finish him, but I got pretty **** close. It's a cakewalk until something repops.

Elder Goobue - Good farming mob. I've solo'd them before, but I prefer having a thief friend to help with drops.

Work in progress:

Apis - Only tried once so far - wasn't too hard to evade, but certainly hits like a truck in berserk mode even with Fan Dance up. Not entirely too sure if this is possible due to the physical immune modes (at least, it seems like it) and the time limit, but will try again eventually. That run to get the ice is fscking long.

To add to Rattys Campaign Mobs. When you get 75 and access to Fan Dance and Body Boost. Try 2 campaign mobs at once :) Amazing exp! If you start having issues just carry them over to the npcs or other people(waiting around cause of you). Beware of Paralyze though, make sure you pay attention to your Fan Dance timer.

For some amazing solo vids I'll go ahead and link to Tren's post here. I think the strats speak for themselves.

And I'll add my personal ones:

Aura statues: IT++ mobs that hid hard....but slow. Only need a decent eva build mixed in with a decent haste build for shadows. Fan dance is appreciated...but not needed at all. Keep at least lv 2 stutter step for VF to land consistently.

Miser Murphy: Ice spikes will hurt you with its paralyze, but you should be able to get VF off before he can cast it. Oh and he hits HARD...like 3-400 dmg hard with FD down, but very inconsistently with a good eva setup. Have at least 5 FM ready to reverse after you WS just in case you get hit afterwards.

Absolute Virtue: just kidding XD

Not to surprising but...

Prime Avatars (excluding Fenrir and Diabolos of course)
You'll find that they miss very often, though don't get too cocky as their 2hr can possibly 1 shot you if you're not prepared.
See Erecia's blog for more info: http://ereblog.livejournal.com/

Sewer Syrup
Very easy to blink tank along with VF at your disposal. Though links can be annoying so try to pull SS past the area where links may occur, G-10 ish is a good spot since nothing there aggros or links (Hecatomb Hounds do not aggro if you're trying to get to G-10). Might want to have some meat food as the fight takes quite awhile.

Note: if you never venture much into Bostaunieux Oubliette watch where you walk as there are floor boards that drop to the lower floor

Cobraclaw Buchzvotch http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Wrath_of_the_Griffon
He's not too difficult other than his fast attacks (and hurts). The hard thing is pulling him out of the Gnole area of which his ??? is at <_<. Again, VF comes in handy here. You could grab a tag if campaign is going just in case aggro occurs but the down fall to this is Gnoles will move more often.

All I can think of now but when I do come back to the game I really need to try soloing all these things you guys are suggesting Q_Q

Edit: Added sum yellow

Two? Try five.

I had five Pleneilune Ronin on me yesterday, with no healer, for like... 20 minutes. Best moment as a DNC so far, except maybe that 1/1 on G5. /brag

Low Level Solo

Lvl 24 in Buburimbu Peninsula doing FoV. Killing the leeches, got 2 links, so fighting 3 at once, and they have icky TP Drainkiss. 2 Even Match and 1 Tough, but I lived! Not as impressive as NM solos, but an achievment to me nontheless :) Oh and I wasn't subbing NIN, so no shadows.

Question, think lvl25 DNC could solo the 2-3 dragon fight?

Soloed a Lamia Idolator in the Caedarva Mire. They're quite the annoying bastiches. Had Fan Dance up, broke his weapon, which almost seemed to make him swing faster when he used Animated Wail (Haste). Long long fight, but was very fulfilling.

Om'xzomit and Om'aern in Al'Taieu yesterday for organs.

Full merits + evasion/haste set up. Saber dance and drain up all times and fan dance if it gets ugly(I'm looking at you drg with Medusa javelin). Can take off about half the hp soloing darkness.

I tried Ul'Yovras, and we were basically stalemated for 15 minutes due to the absurdly high regen (this was tried above ground rather than the water).

Mmm, my kind of posting area as I love to push Dnc to it's limits. (^_^)

Amemet, Aura Statues, Pots that drop water, Om'Phuabo/Aerns, Om'Xzomit with babies (its easy with eva+ setup), Duoed Ancient Goobue (not solo but yah), Aquarius, VT skeletons in gustav, Bune PHs, Amikiri PHs, VT Aerns in Huxoi, all avatars except fenrir diabolos and garuda (spammed healing crap and I timed out), Alkyoneus, Pallas, etc.

Most of these things anyone can solo.. just need a good haste/eva setup.

And cheers to whoever said they soloed baronial bat. I got him to 60% and died due to horrible shadow timing on my part. He hits like a truck even with fan dance.

Oshi - I totally forgot about that WoTG orc mentioned above.

When I did that, I solo'd it pretty much down to single digit%, then a Gnole aggro'd me...

I forget what exactly happened, but I had to pull of a detonation with two DE's to finish him off, with Fan Dance and Trance up. Somehow managed to survive.

Oh yeah! There's also PLD AF3. I ended up zoning the two back to the Monastic Cavern entrance, and then taking out the PLD after zoning back in. Took forever and had to reserve VF for Cure IVs of all things. Then another orc aggros, I still managed to take care of it ever so slowly.

Flamingos in Skye
I know. Nothing special, but with Emperor Band I was pulling in 138-145 each. Nice way to build up some conquest points while soloing. I even got some Parry skillups.
Because they link of course. Try the left and right edges outside the entrance to the tower(the one with all the dolls lining the left and right alcoves)
Only 1 Flamingo in each cubby hole outside.
I switched back n forth b/w Saber Dance and Fan Dance.
I kept a decent evasion setup on as much as possible;which, kept the flamingos around 50-60% acc. maybe(guesstimating)
I'm pretty sure each fight was lasting from 2.5-4 minutes. ALot faster than doing Robber crabs
2 main pieces that helped
Evasion Torque
Emmisary Boots
Sittin at 270 evasion skill
Wivre Mask +10 eva
SH +10
2 eva earrings nothing special just in place of spike earrings

If you want an easy place to XP, get gil, and possibly big gil.. farm upper delkfutt's tower. Most of the gigas TP moves can be stunned and with band you can get 150~ XP a kill (not to mention 200-300G per kill). This and you have the off chance of popping pallas/alky which both are super easy to solo with even a mediocre evasion set (as I tend to use haste setup on them with minor eva skill+ pieces like torque/boxers).

Purushamriga (Gimped version)
Don't get too excited, this was a gimped version, so not sure if it has a drop rate at all! I would assume it results in a very low rate but not 0, and on days where I can't put a run together, i got nothing to lose!

Anyway, Tried him at base toughness and no way will that be soloable I barely made a dent and got raped. So threw in Weakness and Peon today, and got a win before the first time warning even hit. I highly suggest you have solo'd long fight NMs (Aquarius comes to mind) before doing this, not for first time soloists!

-RR, food, shadows, Fan Dance in lobby
-Used EVA setup
-Went in with 0 TP, was no problem.
-Would have liked to have echo drops instead of using TP removing silence
-Keep shadows up, using stun when :ichi unless you feel lucky
-Invested FMs into BF and Dancing Edge whenever safe to do so.
-Had to use 2 hour at 45% when i got unlucky with silence + def down with no TP.
-NM went from 75% to 100% 1 time, and 25% to 50% 2 times with healing breeze.
-Berserk a huuuuge help when he uses it, WS especially around those times.
-Stack on Def Down step when 'zerk is up, Eva down when he uses AGI boost.
-Had several 900 range Dancing Edges while berserk up on him.
-Killed before first time warning, 15 minutes.
-No drop

Runes :
Lost & Found (bottom right)
Conditioning Contract (top left) (just put it in for the **** of it)
Beast (random place)
Great Warrior (on earth)
Peon (random place)
Weakness (random place)

I'll be more specific on placements if i ever have a drop with that exact setup. Tomorrow i try with only one weakening rune and will probably die again :P

PLEASE if you solo a gimped version and get the drop make sure and report it here so we confirm a non-zero drop rate!!!

GL all!

Purushamriga(less gimped) Update :

0/2 dagger on my solo approach. But i got the "Smith" rune today, which gives me hope drops aren't completely 0! I took out weakness rune since yesterday and left only peon to bring drop rates up a little (i assume). And the fight felt about the same difficulty. You really have to be on top of your game however, some more tips i thought of today :

-Echo drops macro now a must, he disturbingly often stopped an important utsu with silence, either i had bad luck or it has evil A.I.
-Try to always have at least 1 FM handy, stun is supremely important.
-For the above reason, build to 4 FM before preparing a BF.
-Optimal time to WS is when :Ni recast is ready.
-Always have 2 hour ready since i always pop it for either emergency, or safety at the end.
-Treat your Fan Dance like your last sliver of HP, do anything possible to keep him from hitting it at all (aka blink tank like your life depends on it). This mentality will save your *** when he does inevitably get his lucky hits in, your FD will be at its best.
- Don't give up when he heals himself! Might look like you lost a lot of ground, but i have yet to see the first time warning even with 3-4 healing breeze in a fight.
-I feel stun is too important for shadows to bother trying to stun Healing Breeze.

He went silence happy yesterday and got the best of me at 50%, so I went three times so far, so 2/3 on wins, as for opened chests with dagger, 0/2.

Hi, im Jaffar from Carbuncle ^^

I solo when i get bored Marids in the woodlands. I get 200+ EXP and tusks I can sell and sometimes skin... I just eat Squid sushi (For AGI and Acc due to lack of Acc cuz I have my evasion gear) and just have haste samba and no merrited JA. I usually always get 1 or 2 tusks per fight. But takes 10 mins to fight lol. But its fun to show off DNC power to random bystanders... I use steps and violent flourest to instantly kill the fles that spawn.

While it's not really a mob, I just soloed the WotG quest battlefield, In a Haze of Glory. I find it pretty cool 'cause people seem to have the idea that Dancers aren't decent damage dealers, and one thing about this fight is that you have to move about the battlefield and avoid aggro, carefully pick off certain mobs, and clear enough space to take down a Turret. I've yet to see Dancers added to the list of jobs that can solo the fight on Wiki (though I just added it myself). It's a very fun fight and for those of you who are slowly but surely progressing along the line of WotG missions/quests, you'll find that mission to be a bit of a fun challenge.

Last 2 posters. You got me excited. Marids!!!!! SOLO? But "RDM kite onry" I have always been told. And that campaign op sounds awesome. Too busy with school to have fully checked out everything.
Oh I can't wait to kill me a marid.

What about its special attack that pops out chigoes? Any problems?

Also. Ratty,
Do you or anyone else here know if I can solo the Plague Chigoe for the Caedarva Mire map?

I've also soloed Marids, and actually did so for Zeni pictures, which made that all the more fun. The Chigoes that it pops off aren't too bad to deal with at all. It's an instant kill if you nail them with a Violent Flourish, so keeping that on reserve is pretty good. Desperate Flourish also works well on the Marids, so you can always back away for a few moments if you need. Marids only spawn a chigoe for a limited number of its special attacks, so at some point it'll then be only you and the Marid. Keeping up steps and Violent Flourishes on the Marid itself will break its tusks, and given the length of the fight (for all their damned HP), you're practically guaranteed to always come away with 2 Marid Tusks per fight.

As for the Plague Chigoe.... that's a very good question.

Ermine's tail NM still soloable with my above strategy after the MMM updates. I do think i detect a slight buff in his DEF/evasion and VF missing more. But after losing yesterday to a time-out from healing breeze spam, I got the same old victory on today's run (before the first time warning) so must have been bad luck.

3/6 win (2 death, 1 timeout) - 0/3 Dagger

Wonder if anyone else is even doing it like me?

Don't play DNC much these days, but I did solo WSNM Water Leaper for Impulse Drive for my DRG. Long fight, but fun.
Biggest problem, besides eating a screwdriver, was popping/pulling it to safe spot because of so many mobs in the area.

Those of you using my solo technique DO NOT BUILD CC POINTS.

I'm now 100% sure that saving up CC before going in will make it un-soloable because it will constantly healing breeze. I've done this fight enough times both ways to know this is definitely not bad luck.

SE can never give without taking... They have some serious personal issues to get over.

Only SE would design something this stupidly. Can we turn CC off? I'm about to take a long FFXI break, I don't like being forced to do this once per day or get a guaranteed loss. Doing that was the only reason i was really logging in anymore.

Edit: Thought CC points start building at jp midnight, which made it even worse.

I soloed Baronial Bat before I left FFXI, but it was one of my solos I didn't youtube. >< The only hard part was getting it to a place where adds wouldn't respawn on top of me. I believe I popped it > D. Flourish > Run a bit > Sneak + Invis > Run to the tunnel that goes upstairs > wait for it to catch up > fight there. It's been a while though. Thanks for the props earlier in the thread Kalisa. ^^

Some of my more interesting solos when I still played include:

Ose
Turranic Tunok

Those of you using my solo technique DO NOT BUILD CC POINTS.

I'm now 100% sure that saving up CC before going in will make it un-soloable because it will constantly healing breeze. I've done this fight enough times both ways to know this is definitely not bad luck.

SE can never give without taking... They have some serious personal issues to get over.

This means you have to camp the **** well at JP midnight to avoid building any CC if you wanna solo it. Only SE would design something this stupidly. Can we turn CC off? I'm about to take a long FFXI break cuz i refuse to log in at 11 every day just to be able to solo this. And doing that was the only reason i was really logging in anymore.

The first CC point you gain is given to you 32 hours after your last (successful?) MMM run, each additional point is given 8 hours after that (assuming you don't do MMM runs)

Knowledge is power. Yours couldn't power a lightbulb. Congratulations, you're dumber than a potato.

Thanks for the info, it still then means you have to log in and try it every day or else the next time you try is a wash. Though i guess you can just do a farming run that day, but if you have trouble getting on every day you'll be wasting a lot of chances at the dagger :C

Not to make a new thread just for this, FYI's my content ID's are now closed.

I leave the game every year so no big deal for me, but i can't help but feel this might be the last time. Been feeling frustration and disgust at SE far too much lately, to the point of willingly passing up a chance to work for them. GL with further solo research, keep pushing those limits cuz I won't be there anymore to help you do it! ;)

DNC has been my favorite job, stay fabulousss.

Kreutzet

Finally got Sirocco Kukri for my THF.

Was a bit nervous, as the first time I faced Kreut on my THF I ate the dirt.
The fight went down pretty easily.

Capped Evasion (Max Evasion merits)
Capped Dagger (Max Dagger merits)
1 Fan Dance Merit
2 RF Merits

Not the best in evasion setup by any means, but it served it's purpose
Azoth/BK+1, Warhoop
Ohat, Evasion torque, Dodge Earring x2 (I know, I know)
SH, Enkidu's mittens, Blood Ring, Ecphoria Ring
Amemet Mantle +1, Scouter's Rope, Etoile Tights, Dancer Toe Shoes
Sole Sushi

Killed a few Sand Cockatrice to get TP and Finishing moves. When Kreut spawned, I claimed and ran him into the tunnel. Kept Fan Dance applied at all times. I only have it unlocked so full 5 minute recast but that shouldn't be a problem.

He was missing me alot, and when he did hit me when shadows went down Fan dance kept each hit below 100. Didn't have any problems with utsu timers. Applied Quickstep repeatedly. Don't bother with Desperate flourish, you want to make sure you have Violent flourish ready. When Ni went down, it was easiest to VF Ichi to get shadows back up quickly.

Never Weaponskilled, though I could have burned the tp and RF to bring me back up if I had wanted to, but being my first time facing him on DNC I went conservatively. Utsusemi ate most of his tp moves.

He did use Stormwind, and I stunned the first one (not certain if it would break his triple Stormwind cycle) and he followed up with the 2nd stormwind wiping shadows, easily CW2 to full HP and then he used his 3rd Stormwind, which again was CW3 to full HP, after i got utsusemi back up. Never saw another Stormwind used for the rest of the fight. I kept whittling away his life and in the end I'm 1/2 on Sirocco.

My accuracy was pretty good throughout the entire fight. I don't think there was any moment where I had more than 2 misses over 4 attack rounds, even with his Feather Barrier applications.

The fight took ~18 minutes.

Serket
I only soloed him for about 15 min then had a SCH friend show up to help finish him off. His acc was terrible. Usually only hit my fan dance 2-4 times before i would recast it even fully raged. Also I have 2 merits in fan dance. (Stun is your best friend.^^) I belive I could have soloed him. Though the fight would have been much longer.(took just under 40 min) Fully raged he crit a fresh fan dance for 74dmg. Never had fan dance get hit enough to be less than 50% dmg reduction.

Lumber Jack
Looooonnnng fight. But was an easy fight. Keep shadows up. Only had Break hit me once, and i resisted it. He spams Stonega 4(only thing to be feared in my fight, though break could be a problem if it lands.) His acc is terrible to an decent-good eva setup. Also I was spamming Stun for shadows. Even though he has "instant cast" I managed to stun just 1 of his spells. Over all very fun fight.

Aquarius: Long fight but not too hard. Have capped evasion and full evasion merits, plus a ton of + evasion gear.
