I encountered an odd bug/glitch/wtf.

The scene: Castle Z, a DNC75/THF15(lol) hunting a coffer key for PLD.

I'm fighting an Ahriman. Signet wears off. He casts level 5 Petrify. I'm petrified. /sadface

I recover from Petrify with 120ish HP. I CW4 myself, then take a few more hits. I use Boxstep, get finishing moves, Reverse Flourish. I'm at 500ish HP. The Ahriman starts casting Stonega III. Curing Waltz is on recast, so are Steps, no Finishing Moves, no stun. I start mashing my CW3 macro as fast as possible in the hopes it comes off recast before he finishes casting.

The Ahriman casts Stonega III

I drop to 0 HP.

I use Curing Waltz III.

I have 300something HP.

Does this mean I'm undead now? =(

PS: Where can I get brains... for... uh... medical research?

I say it was probably a lag issue and it showed you taking damage from the spell before your Cure Waltz healed you, even though server side you really took the damage after the Waltz, and not before.

Sorta. It's possible for this to happen even w/ spells. I've been in a shoot out w/ a BLM mob on SCH. We both are casting a large nuke at the same time. They both go off at exactly the same time. We both die @ exactly the same time. No DoTs on either of us. Was frustrating and funny at the same time. *I've said at the same time too much in this post*

Basically, if the client gets the command for the waltz just slightly before the server's transmission for spell completion comes in, it'll still do the waltz but requires confirmation from the server first. So yeah it's normally caused by a lag issue, but it's really just a slight flaw in the communication from client > server > client. Funny to see.

Awesome. I kinda wish we had some sort of Michael Jackson Thriller ja. All the dead people in campaign get up and start fighting your mob with you lol

If this was the case he wouldn't be left with full HP. Sounds to me like it happened exactly the way he says if it's all true. With some room for error like maybe it was 8 HP not 0 and it just looked like 0 for a second.

But yeah if it was just visual lag, he wouldnt end up with full HP he'd end up deep in the red after taking that spell to the face after a cure.

Whatever went down, based on this story, the spell definitely got calculated before the cure. So the only question is did he really see 0 HP.

I would like to clarify that I had all damaged filtered off, so my chat log didn't show any numbers. I didn't see "Stabbywabby takes 542 damage" or "Stabbywabby recovers 400 HP" or anything. So, i wasn't seeing chat log lag. I saw my health bar go dark, 0 HP, a split second in which to mutter a colourful phrase (no RR, no hope of anyone coming to raise my sorry ass) and then i was alive again.

It's possible I suppose that I had 8 HP, but the thing is I had less HP than I usually regain from a Curing Waltz after the Curing Waltz. That could be explained by the mob hitting me during my surprise I suppose, but as a frequent healer (DNC 75, WHM to 37, SMN 71, RDM 54) I've developed a gut reaction (usually that same colourful phrase)to seeing a health bar go dark.

Anyway, probably just lag. But still, very entertaining. I found the coffer I was looking for right behind that mob too. ^^

I have had my own cure on myself get completed in the cast, but I am killed before the effect hits, then it attempts to hit and fails. Something like:

Danita takes xxx damage. Danita is defeated.
Danita casts Cure IV on Danita. Cure IV has no effect on Danita.

(I forget the exact wording.)

You were pretty lucky to live in that situation. :)

Doing one of the FL assaults last week (Price is Right) our SAM dropped a Yuki for zero damage right as the boss died, we assumed it was a lag issue and he was actually already dead (no Stoneskin or physical shield or anything). So yeah lag can happen.
