PUP solos in Abyssea?Follow

Last night I solo'd sippoy with no difficulty. I had to get back at him for the mega wipe he caused my alli so long ago. I was helping a friend with drg seals and there he was, i was not set up properly but i thought id take a swing at him. I used razed ruins, sanguine scythe, and voracious violet for atmas, and used no Eva gear except for blithe mantle and Hermes feet. I was /nin with soulsoother. Deployed my automaton behind him while I proceeded to destroy him. I kept constant 2x dark and 1 light maneuver. He had a hard time getting through my shadows except after his aoes. Each -ga iv and Stygian would take me down to about 1k hp, which my automaton would immediately remedy. There were a couple close calls, in which I popped my lucid temp, as well as a stray role reversal. But other than that, a very smooth fight.

If you came with a better Atma set up, with some -mdt, Eva, and regen, you should have no problem making him dead.

Just to necro your necro, the important thing about that style of fight is that if the mob spews AoE, keep your brass buddy out of range, otherwise call him in for more damage. Also, choose RDM vs WHM head based on how the mob acts. If it throws nasty debuffs on you (paralyze, virus, curse, and especially petrify), or is in Abyssea (higher HP pool to heal) go white. If it throws a bunch of crappy debuffs on you like evasion down that distract white, if it spams stuff you need to dispel (like Protect and Stoneskin), or if nukes work well on it, go red. And of course if you're not solo, you might also want to go white and keep a Light maneuver up for party healilng, and maybe Water to get P5/S5 on someone else.

I have Kenbishi set up so that I can drop one attachment, then switch between red and white heads and have him back out in 15 seconds or so. Usually I put Optic Fiber or Vivi-Valve in that slot on white, Mana Conserver or Disruptor on red. (sometimes you need those extra dispels!)

FWIW, I recently soloed Abyssic Cluster for Marotte Claws, it dropped the third time. That extra regen/refresh on top of my AF2+2 head makes a noticable difference in pet MP with MNK+WHM style. It's sort of the mage automaton equivalent of Buratts.
