Quick Draw and CardsFollow

Should I be carrying all the different types of cards for Quick Draw?

Atm, I only bought Thunder, Ice, Light, and Dark cards since they were the cheapest being bought on the ferry between Whitegate and Nashmau for 38g a piece compared to the 49g a piece in Nashmau.

Thankfully, both Light and Dark are available on the ferry for the cheaper price, but what about Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water, should I go out of my way to get them? I am wondering if I should have them on hand to exploit elemental weaknesses against some enemies and if at 51 I should have all 8 Elemental Staves for each card type as well.

How would you prioritize them?

I like Fire cards because I use Fire Staff for the ranged attack bonus anyway.

Light and dark are absolute musts. Beyond that, I like earth (for slow) and ice (for paralyze). Like the guy above me said, if you're already using fire staff for Ranged attacks, might as well carry fire too and get that bonus.

Personally, since I invested initially in an HQ fire staff for the str and r.atk, I always carry with me card cases of light, dark, and fire cards.

Now with the satchel, I carry some singles sometimes of water, and ice, as well. I still only have cases though of fire, dark, and light. My HQ staff collection has also increased since I started leveling blm.

From 40-51, I usually used Ice as many mobs are weak to that and I just happen to like Ice Magic in games...

From 51-70 I almost exclusively used Fire as I had a Fire Staff on through these levels. I didn't get too many resists, plus the bonuses from the Staff were too good to overlook.

Now that I'm 70+ and using a Joyeuse instead of a Staff, I'll probably start carrying around Ice again to use for my QD Damage shot. If I start coming to end-game events where debuffs are more important, I'll start bringing along Earth as well for Slow enhancement.

Bottom line from my perspective (and it's not as knowledgeable as some others here):

Light/Dark always have on you
Minimum 1 Element to DD with (match ele weakness or your staff, Fire/Ice popular for this)
At events, carry Ice/Earth for debuff enhancement

I always carry light. Dark is not 100% needed. I have never needed to dispel Ultima (as an example). COR is last place dispeller imo.

I do carry Ice and Earth to any HNM/endgame thing i do as COR for para and slow enhancements.

At last check light still does enhance dia (even if it "misses") so exp wise i might would stick with that. (tho it did that and damage when I leveled cor)

I really think of all the cards i use at all (thunder, earth, fire (for fire staff DD QDs) ice, light and dark) i use dark the least.

Wind and water don't add much benifit for as awesome of debuffs, so Meh @ them.

I guess leveling i would have light+dark, and try to get whatever the mob is weak too as a 3rd card to carry. Leave the rest in Mog Sac.

One thing I wondered about QD but haven't really checked out myself is if a BLM or RDM slept something with the sleep spell, then i followed with dark shot, would it actually increase the duration of the sleep? I'm assuming it would but haven't ever actually tried it.

Unfortunately Quick Draw will only increase "Potency" and not duration.

Wind can be particularly useful, since Wind/Auster's staff has AGI+4/+5 (the only stave to have that stat) in addition to being able to match the QD/staff elements. I use Auster's a lot, either for a max AGI QD set, or for pulling due to the nice +10 Evasion stat (effectively 12.5 evasion with the AGI factored in). I can pop off a strong Wind Shot on occasion between pulls and get both AGI+5 AND the element matching bonus for my QD. Since I pull with Peacemaker, that plus the AGI+5 on Auster's is usually plenty sufficient to make my Light Shots stick without using a Light Staff, so I don't normally feel the need to pull with Light Staff unless my sleeps are having a hard time sticking for some reason.

Also, a question. Does Wind Shot enhance Gravity and/or Silence? Both are Wind-based enfeebles. I thought that it did enhance them (at least Gravity), but people rarely mention that (whereas Earth/Ice for Slow/Para are often mentioned).

At a minimum, I keep Light/Dark/1 DD card in inventory at all times. I usually keep more on me. I keep a stack of each though, whether on my inventory or now in my Mog Satchel (formerly my not-in-use cards stayed in my Mog Locker).

The breakdown:
* Light - Sleep. Better have this.
* Dark - Dispel. No reason not to have the option to dispel.
* Ice - Enhance Para, have it for important events. Doubles as solid DD card.
* Earth - Enhance Slow, have it for important events. Doubles as solid DD card.
* Wind - Enhance Silence/Gravity? DD card. Pairs nicely with Wind/Auster's Staff's AGI+.
* Fire - DD card. Pairs nicely with Fire/Vulcan's Staff's R.Atk+.
* Thunder - DD card. Lots of mobs are weak to Thunder, so it's often useful.
* Water - DD card. The least useful card unless you're trying to match Waterday or use it on a mob that's weak to Water. I do like the animation though, and I feel sorry for poor ol' Water Shot now and then so I sometimes use it for situations where it's "any damaging QD will do" and I'm not using an elemental staff.

I personally own Light, Fire, and Auster's staves as well, so that provides some extra benefit to those shots.

I always bring light to endgame events for sleeping various crap that people aggro in Sea on the way to limbus; in limbus itself; in Nyzul or Salvage.

I almost never bring dark. I don't think I've used a Dark Card in about a year.
I bring it to Salvage if I come as Corsair, just in case.

I always bring Ice, Thunder and Fire.

I normally carry light and Ice cards only.

Very rarily do i have dark cards anymore due to the fact that needing a sleep or extra damage seems to take a higher importance. Also theres usually a BRD or RDM around so just a waste of a charge.

Ice cards are solid DD cards for 90% of the mobs in the game.

Also very rarily do I enhance any spells due to the fact that debuffs and such are always spammed on the mob so fast I cant buff the oens i want.

Debuff enhancing has a few tricks to it.

While leveling, I am willing to bet that using light shots for dia enhancement would still payoff well (as they did for all of us who leveled before we had sleep/dispel).

In events, QD debuff enhancement works best on things where para/slow are going to stick. You can just ask the rdm for when he casts. With the 45 sec recasts so many people have now its no problem to keep up with most every time it wears.

Dia/bio enhancement it also great on some mobs. 5% more att or def off can be very noticeable.

It requires PAYING attention to the fights to use it well. But in Ultima of example, staying on top of ever slow/para cast and hitting the random buff on bios is never nice. Your tanks will notice some added ease.

With the new mog satchel i'll be carrying a stack of everything in that. Currently with my 70 slots, I just have light/dark/earth/ice on most occasions.

Light and Dark cannot be ignored. Do not get caught without the ability to sleep or dispel.

I personally carry all types. Just in case.

Well, the only reason I got Thunder Cards were because they were cheap >.>;

I buy my cards mostly from the boat to Nashmau since the cards there are over 10g cheaper, and since COR is my first job to level 55, I need to save gil in every way I can.
