I know blu can solo the last fight i have seen the videos, but how good of a blu do you have to be in terms of skills and gear?

A blu tried to solo this for my friends but I have no idea what there gear was like. my blu is still pretty new, but I have all the spells that were listed in the solo on the wiki, so was just hoping to get an idea of how good my gear has to be to do this fight?

As I had mentioned I have seen the videos but thats not a huge help. That char is using .dat swaps so I really have no idea of his gear, and while I can see his spells thats not really the part that I was looking for info on.

I was hoping to get an idea on if people are doing this and failing if there gear is not all +2 with an almace, or if every joe average ah blu could do this with capped skills.

That looks fun. I'll have to try it.

Have you tried yet? I haven't put any effort into a benthic set, but that probably doesn't really matter. The key is a big powerful closer on the darkness skillchain. (he's got around 60k hp and this was a 74k skillchain.)

He's weak against darkness.. looks like better than 3x damage. (This was always noticeable in the fight for drain/aspir spells).

So if you can pop out there a good QC you should be all good. I haven't looked at refining my sets since level 90... and I can't remember a few pieces.. but I think this much will probably do it for QC for the fight:

I think this would probably do it. this is as much as I remember of what I have.

I'm more interested in the offhand sword. Is that one of the tp swords? like +100 tp? looks like Tidus' sword from ffX

Short answer is you can have average gear and do this with relative ease. I know a very mediocre blu who managed it 2nd time. It took me 3 times cause I tried to do it all in macros and got interrupted the first 2 times.

The mediocre blu had some +1 and mostly pink gear. AH swords (level 75ish).

I have all +2 and STR ToM sword.

The key to winning is to time it correctly. The boss has a knockback move which will interrupt you, so plan accordingly. I didn't bother with macros at all and just ran through the menus and was done in under a minute.

sweet. I will try to cap my blu magic skill this weekend and go and try it next week if I get my skill capped. also silly me for some reason I thought QC was a dex mod not str mod and now I need to go and change up my gear set.

so I got my bu skill capped to that of a 92 blu and I figure I am about ready to try out this fight. I had two questions to ask though.

I am currently sitting at 83+52 STR for my QC set, tha is while wearing AF+1 hat and a PCC on my neck.
am I better off adding a 4 str anwig hat to my head for the str or keep the sword skill + chain affinity boost on af3 hat? and is pccgoing to be a bigger help to me acc wise since my skill is not capped than adding a couple more str there as well?

for reference my set up is

mab tom+3 sword mageblade mavi tathlum
af3+1hat PCC Suppa Brutal
af1+1 body enkidu's mittens Spiral Ring Rajas Ring
Potentia Cape Warwolfe belt mavi+2 legs Areion's Gamashes

any help to this set would be welcome.

Won.

Had both my spells interrupted, and everything still ended up going off and chaining like it was no big deal. QC did 13+k and Dark did 46k. we really only just managed to hit the roughly 60k dmg needed but dead is dead. I used the fear listed above, though I did pop some str food and a tp wing to modify my qc damage.

Have done this fight now four times. First two wiped, trying to get the right gear/spell setup perfected. The last two runs have gone like cake. Here was my setup:

99 Blue Mage/Red Mage (Galka) Capped Blue Magic & 5/5 Merits to Assimilation.

Gear:

Swords - Isador (Magic Accuracy +6)
Firmament (Str +3)
Ammo - Flame sachet (Str +2)
Head - Mavi kavuk +1 (Enhances Chain Affinity)
Neck - Chivalrous Chain (Str +3)
Ear1 - Hecate's earring (Magic Attack Bonus +6, Magic critical hit rate +3%)
Ear2 - Moldavite earring (Magic Attack Bonus +5)
Body - Magus jubbah (Str +3, Blue Magic Skill +15)
Hands - Heafoc mitts (Str +13)
Ring1 - Spiral ring (Str +5)
Ring2 - Rajas ring (Str +5)
Back - Vigilance mantle (Str +4)
Waist - Warwolf belt (Str +5)
Legs - Mavi tayt +1 (Str +5, Blue Magic Skill +10, Enhances Efflux)
Feet - Mavi basmak +1 (Magic Accuracy +5, Magic Attack Bonus +5)

Necessary Spells:

Goblin Rush & Benthic Typhoon - Skillchain Bonus
Quad. Continuum & Delta Thrust - Dual Weild Bonus
Dream Flower & Sound Blast - Magic Attack Bonus
Sudden Lunge - Stun
Fantod - Boosts Attack (2.7%) and Magic (+2)
Occulation - Blink Shadows
Cocoon - Increase Defense 50%
Plenilune Embrace - Attack and Magic Attack Boosts (Stacks with Fantod)
Metallic Body & Magic Barrier - Max MP Bonus (for being Galka lol)

Everything after this is up to the players choice. Couldn't hurt to set spells that boost Strength though.

I started off in max MP gear, out of habit more than anything else.

Buffed myself (Refresh, Haste, Protect, Shell, Occulation, Aquaveil, Stoneskin, Phalanx)

Changed gear to the setup above. Used Plenilune Embrace to top off HP and get Att & Magic boosts. Cocoon just before engaging.

Walked up and used Sudden Lunge as he used his knockback move. (Stun from Sudden Lunge seems to last a long time)

Made sure I was in range, then used Azure Lore & Benthic Typhoon.

Quickly used Fantod, Chain Affinity, Efflux. Then cast Quad. Continuum. Next thing I knew I was out and Moogle was dead. :)

All in all, damage was this:

Sudden Lunge - 705 Dmg
Hit - 354 Dmg
Hit - 282 Dmg
Benthic Typhoon - 2,763 Dmg
Quad. Continuum - 17,298 Dmg
Darkness SC - 56,043 Dmg
TOTAL - 77,445 Dmg
Damage Taken(me) - 0 Dmg

Probably could have gone without using Fantod, but I wanted to make sure I did as much damage as possible.
(Farming the damned KI got to be a royal pain after 3 tries. :p)

I might suggest making a macro set for all the JA's and spells you use in this fight. Azure Lore doesn't last forever, and it helps to prevent someone from missing a step/spell.

you don't need the magic attack bonus if you are /rdm
you get mab 2 trait from /rdm already.

It does not. Skillchain bonus does, though.
